The Shameless 29 Winners and Losers

Voting to rescind the will of voters regarding two-term limits did not prove to be much of an encumbrance to many who were involved in yesterday's Democratic Primary. Thankfully Alan Gerson lost, as did the scandal-plagued Maria Baez (the latter not by much, however). The results do not bode well for William Thompson, the Party's challenger to Mayor-for-Life Mike Bloomberg. But it ain't over till the fat lady sings!

Losers (asterisk indicates running for third term):

*Alan Gerson
*Maria Baez
*Helen Sears
*Kendall Stewart

Winners:

*Christine Quinn
*Robert Jackson
Inez Dinkens
*G. Oliver Kopell
*Larry Seabrook
*Helen Foster
*Leroy Comrie
Thomas White
*James Sanders
*Diana Reyna
Sara Gonzalez
Darlene Mealy

Remaining (unopposed or not running)

*Erik Martin Dilan
*Simcha Felder
*Lewis Fidler
*Melinda Katz
*Michael Nelson
*Domenic Recchia
*Joel Rivera
James Vacca
*Al Vann
*Peter Vallone, Jr
*David Yassky

Heading to jail:

*Miguel Martinez (resigned his seat)

Quinn only narrowly beat her opponent (52/48)and she was expected to be a "shoo-in." That was a good sign.

Months ago there were press reports that if Bloomberg won reelection Quinn would be appointed a Deputy Mayor as her payoff for supportting the change in term limits. We shall see...

I see that the owner of Town and Village newspaper is endorsing Bloomberg's re-election. Fortunately, that is probably the most inconsequential little rag in the entire city and has very few readers, but it shows what a lot of us have always suspected: it is an advocate of the landlord and is not on the side of the tenants. I certainly won't be renewing my subscription to this publication.

Not to change the subject, but has anyone else noticed that these so-called "Arborists" have been going round lopping the limbs of perfectly healthy trees? Why? What is the reason for this? Does Rob Speyer simply hate trees and likes to mutilate them?

I too noticed that several trees had been mutilated. Very bizarre. It looks like they've been attached by Freddy whatsisname (Kruger?) from those gory movies! I suspect it is another example of the Speyer Stupidity that we have been subjected to for the last three years. When will it end!
