Claim Form Deadline MAY 15 for Roberts Settlement

Important Message from the TA:

All Roberts Class Members: Claim Your Money NOW!

You will receive money from the $68.75 million in rent overcharges still unclaimed from the Roberts settlement provided you file your claim by May 15. Don't miss out on cash that's rightfully coming to you.

It's hard to believe that 5,412 current or former tenants who were illegally charged market rates for their apartments have not yet taken the simple step of signing and mailing a legal Claim Form that will permit them to collect their reimbursement from the J-51-Roberts settlement. If you are a member of the class and haven't yet filed your claim, time is running out for you.

To collect your money, you must mail your Claim Forms postmarked no later than May 15th. Any eligible tenant who does so will receive money from the settlement, from a minimum of approximately $150 up to potentially tens of thousands of dollars.

There is no reason not to claim the money! You have nothing to lose. Moreover, if you fail to act, your unclaimed money will be returned to CW Capital and Metropolitan Life. The Claim Form was attached to the Notice of the settlement that all eligible tenants received in January.

If you have the Claim Form, submit it immediately, following the instructions on the form. If you have not received a claim form or have misplaced it, or if you have any questions about this email, immediately contact Berdon Claims Administration at 1-800-766-3330, or go to Berdon's contact page at
http://www.berdonclaims.com/ContactPage.aspx

In exchange for that $150 my rent will go up by $300 per month. Screw it, CW can keep the damn $150. I'd rather not accept or endorse this settlement, or the whole RS system at all.

Big win for tenants Dan!! NOT!

Roberts Settlement was a sham, although it made the lawyers tons of $$$$

Why not donate it to the Tenants Assoc instead of letting the landlord keep it?

LOL...Good one, or donate it to Dan Garodnick's re-election...LOL.

The Tenants Assoc doesn't represent the interests of the younger market rate demographic. The day they stop demonizing us as noisy self entitled students whose parents pay their rent is the day I'll donate to the TA.

Ours goes up almost $1500/month. It is such a sham.

The TA is not doing the demonizing, the tenants are.

Anony 12.54.The TA does not demonize you, it’s posters on this blog and the TA FB page who do. Sorry, but in my own experience, I have seen far too many 3-4 roommate situation tenants who are truly transients, do not abide by the 80% carpet rule, are generally bad neighbors (long term tenants can be bad as well) who don’t register their dogs and have illegal breeds, etc. You may be the exception to the rule and I thank you for that. If nothing else, joining the TA to fight for fire safety, illegal management break ins to one's apartments, bed bug notifications, etc., I would think that these QOL issues that affect us all would be enough of a reason to join and get involved in the TA, a much maligned origination (some criticisms on point) here that I have had some major disagreements with but I still remain as a volunteer to try to change the organization within.

I think it is the student population that are the target of the TA's ire, rather than all younger market rate demographic. The students, packed into cut-up apartments, are the ones who really irritate the older tenants as well as a lot of the younger market rate tenants, who have to get up and work for a living.

It's true the Roberts Settlement was an absolute sham and a slap in the face for all the market rate tenants who have ripped off enough already and are now getting ripped off even more. I really feel that there has been some dirty, underhanded wheeling and dealing here. The lawyers are the only ones who benefited and they should be ashamed.

Please don't think that all of us original rs tenants are against you, because we are not. We see you getting bled dry by these bloodsuckers at the same time that we are being treated like dirt because they want us to die! I don't think there are too many happy campers living in PCVST and it is unbridled, unabashed greed and avarice that is at the root of the problems. First MetLife, then TS, and now this pack of predators, CW. What does CW stand for anyway? Canadian Wankers?

The Tenants Assoc doesn't represent the interests of the long term rent stabilized demographic. The day they stop selling us out as they do nothing but think of a conversion (which will be the final death knell for the TA) is the day I'll donate to the TA.

Poster at 5 pm, you are probably right.

The way I see it is that this property means so much to so many people and we are such a fractured entity. The fact that STR continues his blog and so many of us read it and comment on it says something about how passionately we feel about this place. We may not all agree on everything, but at least we all want to live here and live here happily without being exploited and used and abused by Management. Believe me, we will still be here after Compass Crock has ridden off into the sunset.

STR does a great service in giving us a place to air our views - even if those views are not all on the same page. Without STR, we would have nowhere to go. Eventually, this whole mess will be sorted out. Not everyone will be happy for sure. The Halcyon Days of Stuy Town are gone and will never return, so we just have to try to preserve what is good and unique and makes this such a great place to live. We have been bled and chewed-over like a corpse laid bare to a back of vultures. We have to try to make sure that all future vultures are on notice that we are not the kind of people who will roll over and die so our meat can be devoured. The TA needs to get off the conversion track (that aint ever gonna heppen), dump parasite Goradnick and start fighting for QOL because that is what is important here. It's a rental property; always has been a rental property and probably always will be a rental property. We just want to get a decent QOL in return for our rents and those rents shouldn't be at a level that would make Shylock blush for shame. Enough of the gouging and bloodsucking. Let's get this property back on track as a good place to rent. People who want to buy -- there are plenty of buying opportunities elsewhere. It doesn't have to be here.

I would like to be the first to step up and donate the lawyer's share of the settlement to the TA.

Neither of them deserve it but, at least if it goes to the TA, we might stop getting those annoying emails begging for cash. Besides, how many eight hundred dollar Ferragamo slip-ons do these legal eagles need?!?

The Roberts Settlement Sets my legal & modified rent at $4800, current rent is $2900 for a 1 bedroom in Stuytown, was hoping to stay, but with 30 day notice my rent can increase by $1900. I feel with that option in place CW will raise all rents to the legal max before a sale. Lots of empty Apts=Lots more money for CW Capital

At 285 Avenue C on Monday morning, both elevators and both stairwells on the 1st Floor had a lot of pee in them, probably relating to Cinco de Mayo. The quantity led me to believe it was deliberately done. Obviously there are bad apples in any demographic but young transients who don't consider this their homes ARE the problem. BTW, it still was not cleaned up by noon so I took a giant bottle of Clorox and poured a big amount in all spots and then kept my fingers crossed that nobody slipped.

This can only mean that a conversion is imminent. People are throwing in the towel.

Tip of the hat to the TA to distributing the forms under the doors of tenants who didn't bother to claim their money the first time. To all who revile the TA, a reminder: The TA wasn't a party to the suit, and it isn't responsible for following up. If you think a small number people didn't return the forms, you'd be wrong, In my building, 51 people in 35 apartments still have money to claim.

So what? How is that helpful to anyone except the knuckleheads who are too lazy or too stupid to file their claim?

Well- I over paid in that apartment for 7 years of my young adulthood and I want my money- even if I don't get all 30K they are saying- I will be happy with $500! I just don't understand why the unclaimed money goes back to the landlord- it should be split amongst those of us smart enough to take the 5 minutes to fill out the claim paperwork!!!
