Stuy Town's Bikini Beauties Vs. Soccer Moms Makes the NY Post

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/tit_for_tot_furor_i737gl0J1p4j5rzENWbr1H

Note the URL address... "Tit for Tot Furor"....  LOL.

From the article:

NYU student Melissa DeBlasio (pictured), 21, watched as a guard told beauties laying out on benches outside the playground to sit up.

“This is so ridiculous,” DeBlasio said. “The sun’s out. It’s summer. People are going to be tanning.”

Kaya Gieniusz, 21, called the bikini crackdown “silly.”

“There’s just a lot of rules here, and they enforce them randomly,” said the Marymount Manhattan College student. “We pay outrageous money to live here. Let us sunbathe for a few hours.”

Incidentally, I did pass Playground 10 a little while ago, and there was one "bikini beauty" out there.  Loved the fact that kids were playing baseball right next to and around her, and she was looking this way and that way, distracted from her reading and annoyed.  That's the way to do it, children. Take control of your playground!

And this photo (the shock of an unexpected splendid view) speaks volumes:

Update: This sexy story is getting traction:

Another update!  I don't remember any article about affordable housing in Stuy Town getting such international attention, but bikini beauties in Stuy Town... Well, that's a real story!

Here's another one for you:

http://scallywagandvagabond.com/2013/05/manhattan-stuyvesant-town-residents-insist-you-no-longer-scantily-sunbathe-in-their-park/

I expect we'll be visited by some cable news channels soon....

Evening update: CBS local radio....

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/05/12/bikini-clad-sunbathers-near-playground-lead-to-complaints-in-stuy-town/

When did we become "upscale"?....

http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2013/05/12/Sunbathing-incites-fight-between-tenants/UPI-42501368371678/#ixzz2T5nld7Ih

Next day update. It never stops!

http://m.now.msn.com/stuyvesant-town-sunbathers-cause-a-stir-in-new-york

Of course, by now, the story has taken incorrect tangents, as seen in the MSN article. This issue was never about the "parks" of Stuy Town, but Playground 10, and loads of commentators are pouncing on incorrect information. An obvious lesson about the faults and laziness of what passes as journalism.

The link below offers up a more thorough review, but, again, strays readers wrong with a photo that is not of Playground 10 (and doesn't even look like the Oval Lawn):

http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/n-y--apartment-complex-calls-for-bikini-ban-181640182.html

I must note with some amusement that my "Think of the children!" comment was done very much tongue-in-cheek, but not one story that's picked up on that comment has taken it for what it is.

Tuesday update:  Now India gets into the act:

STR you missed the BEST quote!

“I pay just as much rent as they do,” [Katie] Friedman said. “Just because I don’t have a child doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be able to be here.”

Go Hofstra! No, really, leave now.

Edmund Dunn said...

At least 12 main level grass areas where they can go sunbathe before the Oval is open and they pick playground 10? Where kids are actively playing sports, sometimes with their parents? BTW, this playground used have rules posted at its gate that it was for active children sports. The level of narcissism exhibited by these women is astonishing. Besides, aren’t tans created by the sun so 80’s?

Anonymous said...

It is highly inappropriate for these exhibitionists to be in a children's playground. There is something a little (maybe a lot) perverse about this. I am sure parents feel very uncomfortable about their children being around women who are wearing practically nothing and flaunting it! Not healthy and wholesome at all. Time and place for everything. Hogging a children's playground to flaunt your flesh is just not healthy.

Anonymous said...

I hope those kids do some serious smackdowns with their baseballs, footballs, etc. If these female flashers get enough wayward balls bouncing off of them and knocking over their iced chocolattiefrappuncinos, they may get annoyed enough to actually get up and MOVE to a more suitable place.

Isn't there a law about adults hanging around children's playgrounds if they are not accompanying a child?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I think the children can easily win the battle by just being children. If I had a couple of young ones, I'd buy them and their friends water guns and let them loose in Playground 10.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

All these narcissistic lovelies have to do is wait another week until the Oval Lawn opens. But, no, they are ENTITLED to be sunbathing in a children's playground, crowding out the little ones!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

Anonymous said...

@12:30PM, but, haven't you heard? The 80's are back & better than ever!

Anonymous said...

"All these narcissistic lovelies have to do is wait another week until the Oval Lawn opens."

This is something else Sean Sullivan "assured" us of at the Town Hall meeting.

Anonymous said...

I still don't understand why these young people are willing to pay high rents here when they could get something nicer with real amenities elsewhere.

Anonymous said...

It's on the Daily Mail website, too. Stuy Town Reporter goes global! http://bit.ly/14fhN7j

I have two 10-year-old boys in my care every week. The level of discomfort they feel around scantily clad women is something that took me aback, until I talked to other parents about it. These kids are disturbed by blatant sexuality in their midst, and they deserve not to encounter this at their playground. Only totally entitled a-holes would argue otherwise.

Unfortunately for those of you still in ST/PCV, that's exactly whom management has recruited as new tenants.

Anonymous said...

Since their folks pay the rent, they want to make sure that they're in a safe, secure environment. Our own PS officers may just be the best "indicators" of safety for the concerned parents from the flyover states; THAT and the fact that we don't look quite as scary as tenement buildings do. Besides, it's only a short mental hop, skip, and jump from a dormitory to one of our buildings in the minds of these parents.

Anonymous said...

I don't think sunbathing belongs close to our front doors either. What next? Maybe everyone in the city, because everyone pays rent and taxes, should be able to stretch out almost-naked wherever they please. Not having a lawn or a bit of grass shouldn't stop anyone from catching some rays on the sidewalk, for instance. And perhaps ladies should go topless too, while they're at it, nothing wrong there either especially in an advanced society such as ours.

Anonymous said...

Saw this on another thread, but it really belongs here!
"There's an article in the NYP about the titfest in Playground 10. What is it about the word "Playground" that these women don't understand? It's a playground for children, not a spa. In most playgrounds around the City, adults without children are not allowed in. Do these women have pedophilic impulses inasmuch as they like to show tit and ass to little kids? It's a children's playground for crying out loud. Get the fuck out of it, tramps!"

Anonymous said...

There are dozens and dozens of areas in Stuy Town they can bake in the sun, why do they need to occupy a children's playground???? They are bringing this problem onto themselves and make all of the students here look bad.

Anonymous said...

@1:22 PM, obviously because it's what they can afford. When a rent is split among so many, it's affordable, and the place is not without its attractions. Also, this place is huge, so less enforcement of rules, etc. I used to live in Murray Hill before I moved here. No one stepped out of line, mgmt/owner knew everything that went on and let you know fast if you strayed.

Why exactly are you people so scared of a kid seeing a grown woman in a bikini? Do you cover their eyes at the beach too, or what?!?

Any normally raised kid who's psychologically sound kid shouldn't feel discomfort at somebody sunbathing 30 feet away. Save the money on security and take your kids to the shrink instead, if the sight of a woman in a two piece scares or scars them...

Anonymous said...

Wow! Just wow!

Plenty of room in the news for the sunbathing "controversy"but we can't get a story about the lack of repairs done by CW?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>Why exactly are you people so scared of a kid seeing a grown woman in a bikini??<<

I'm fine with it. The kid will know what gender role he'll have growing up. Maybe get his first boner.

BUT...the issue isn't a kid seeing a grown woman (however, infantile she may actually be) in a bikini, but rather should this woman be occupying a children's playground and crowding out kids who want to use it. Don't you get it, yet?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Please note that I can't let through posts that link to a bikini beauty's Facebook or other online account, no matter how telling they may be. (Well, maybe I can, but I don't want to test the matter.) But I will say that people are free to google our bikini beauties on their own. There's one who has a brief YouTube clip that's, like, so fun.

Melissa/Meredith (both first names are used), however, doesn't mind being photographed, it seems:

Part of what's disturbing is that these exposed bodies are in a context where we don't expect to see so much flesh. At a beach or in certain areas of a park, wearing little clothing is expected. In front of your home, not so much. Similarly, I don't like seeing guys without shirts when I'm walking down the street. That's my expectation--that people will be clothed in public.

Here's a solution (sure to be unpopular with the moms): Restore the playground to the way it was, that is, no fake grass. Generations ran around and played on the concrete with no ill effect, and the atmosphere would be so not conducive to sunbathing.

Solution #2: Let's all chip in and buy these girls a spray tan. No need for them to undress in public and put themselves on display. That could be a new amenity. I hear there's some retail space available on the corner of 23rd and First.

EXACTLY! Unfortunately, these self-absorbed suburban idiots just don't get it. They think that if they are in New York City (Wowsie Wow!) they can act like the jerks that they are and nobody is supposed to object. After all, "This is New York," as they say in Jersey and Kansas!

I have two kids, and my wife who is very sexy gets a tan, i have no problem with my kids seeing any of this, and neither should anyone else. I pay for two apartments in PC, and so pay more rent then most. However, i do not care if you are 23 or 93. Please wear a one piece or a two piece do as you like. Why is this even an issue.

I am glad people are outside sunbathing and using this area. I would rather see kids playing soccer, and others laying out, and having a glass of wine. Enjoy life or move out!!!!

Anon 5:48. This isn't about boobs. This about college kids taking over a playground in the same fashion they take over everything else here.

>>Why is this even an issue.<<

Please don't take this as an insult, but are you dense? The issue is NOT sunbathing or a one-piece or two-piece bathing suit, or going topless. The issue is sunbathing in a playground and crowding out the kids and other folks for whom such a playground is originally intended. Playground, playground, playground. The fact that CWCapital can't get its act together to enforce a playground for its typical use (except when it interferes with the commercial soccer business), is another matter, though pertinent, of course.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

And I'm not forgetting about Jennifer. I expect some topless photos soon.

Rent Stabilization laws state that you must maintain your RS home as your primary residence. If you pay for 2 PCV apartments, you are in direct violation of that law. Just wondering how you managed to finesse that one, as I'd LOVE to have a 2nd apartment here! Do tell...

I'm certain her posts will go, as soon as John Marsh logs on. But I'm delighted she decided to expose her breasts for "complaining old farts." While I don't consider myself in that category, I'm offering her blog space to show us her breasts. Seriously. Let's see if she is just all talk or if she has something to show. I'll even be checking my email with more frequency now.

I'm a Stuy Town mom and I don't mind the bikini beauties in Playground 10. My little Johnnie got his first little erection the other day when one of them unclipped her top to tan her back. He had a full view of her side boob. "Mommy, I'd like to play with that," he said, pointing to the ground-squeezed breast. "No, Johnnie," I replied. "You can't do that. Just be a good boy and play with your balls."

I'm sorry but judging by some of the sanctimonious, self righteous, prudish comments posted here, I'm guessing that there are a lot of people in Stuyvesant town who like the idea of living in New York but who are too afraid to embrace it fully. None of these women are naked, they are wearing bikinis like anyone would on a beach. Are you people seriously suggesting that you would never take your children to a beach in case they laid eyes on a bikini wearing sunbather there? Exactly which century do you think this is? What next - forcing women to cover their ankles? Let me remind you - this is NEW YORK CITY, not Salt Lake City. Either accept the fact that New Yorkers are open and liberal, or move somewhere more in keeping with your uptight attitudes. Honestly, I have no idea why some of you move to this city.

Anonymous said...

Before I lost my Joey in the Oval, he too enjoyed the bikini beauties. At first he thought they were homeless women because they were naked and carried large bags of garbage. I had to explain they were not poor, they could afford clothes but were deliberately going nude, and their "garbage" bags were actually purses filled with laptops, cigarettes, and wine. The boyfriends dry humping them? I couldn't explain that one away.

Wait. This must be parody. Someone already mentioned that only self-entitled out-of-towners respond with "This is New York" when trying to justify their bad behavior. Yes, surely this must parody, particularly when it's been made clear over and over again that the issue is not sunbathing, but sunbathers in a playground meant primarily for kids. Yes, a parody. And a good one.

Anonymous said...

@Lois - yes, my spouse and my children also were born, raised and educated in Manhattan. I came from Europe and Manhattan is where I've always lived since. Why are these people finding it so hard to understand that rules and laws are there for a reason, and they apply to everyone? The place has undergone enough changes to accommodate this new crowd. Time we pushed back on some of the issues now.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

James, for the 50th time. This issue is about sunbathers crowding children out of the playground. The issue is not about nudity or bikinis. Pay attention.

Anonymous said...

And same goes to you Susan Steinberg. You are distracting people from the real issue with this rediculous bikini ban. This isn't about bikinis. It's about CW letting people do whatever, whenever they want. Now kids can't even use the playground because of the college kids? Must dorm life ruin everything?

Anonymous said...

"Honestly, I have no idea why some of you move to this city."

Oh my goodness! Everyone has BOOBS. Your kid is going to become a freak if you, as a parent, are so afraid of boobs. I'd rather my three year old see attractive young boobs than old wrinkly ones. And by the way these guys and gals, paying market value for their apartment, are what allow all you complaing farts live in Manhattan for practically nothing. Move to Missouri.

Jennifer Belcastro 5:26pm May 12
And who said that area is designated for kids? I missed that memo and sign. From a mom of a three year old in PCVST.

The posts Jennifer Belcastro was responding to by Amber Bloom are the following:

Amber Bloom 5:29pm May 12
Toni Martini- my point still stands. If these women are not disrupting the kid's games, it's their right to be where they choose. They're paying to live there just like everyone else. If they were topless, then that's a different story. Also, many of the grassy areas have been blocked off since winter, leaving people to sunbathe on cement.

Amber Bloom 3:30pm May 12
I'm not really offended by these ladies in the picture. They don't look like they're bothering anyone. Also, are parents embarrassed at the beach? Because I've seen skimpier bathing suits there. We all pay to live in Stuytown, we should be able to use the parks if we're not directly in the way of kids games. We shouldn't be discriminated against and not allowed to use the park because we don't have children.
