While Rome Burns... and the TA Found!

Now, as Rome burned and we had the Thursday "meeting" at the Oval with some of our higher ups, I took a photo of this:

And the TA was found! Here is proof:

And!!!

Later that day. Near the Management Office, of course:

This place is run by a bunch of Philistines for a bunch of Philistines. It's a slum and it's falling apart and it has Rick Hayduck's name all over it. I don't think he will resign because I don't think anybody would want to hire him after his job performance here. He would have to go into a totally different line of work.

It is official: they are continuing the "entertainment" atrocities next summer.

This is from the horse's mouth: the CEO of our peaceful, clean, well maintained, stable COMMUNITY.

Who knows? Mother Earth is a constantly shifting ruling entity. She is THE ruling entity. Maybe she'll step in here, along with her many weather friends (devastating hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, killing and sudden temperature changes, flooding) or insect plagues. Maybe Mama Nature will eliminate our miseries here.

. . . It isn't likely . . . but it could happen!

I can’t understand why posters keep blaming Hayduk. Any other manager would be doing the same thing. BLACKSTONE dictates to him and am sure they are thrilled with how he is managing this slum. He is a corporate PR man.

We blame Hayduk because he is the shill who took the job. He wasn’t forced into work by Blackstone. He could have said NO. It takes a certain type of person to come in and do what Rick does, and he goes along with it. He still has his free will the last time I checked.

The worst part about Rick is that he makes it seem like he cares, and then when we turn our backs he shoves the knife right in. That is not on Blackstone, that is on Rick. I would respect him more if he was a pompous prick and did what he’s doing to the community, because then at least we’d know his true colors.

Here you go:

You will need the closest building number. You will also need Rick's contact info, which is on our main site. A bit confusing, but it can be done. I will try to have a more permanent presence on this soon.

True that he puts on a pleasant facade which is phony but any manager under this company would travel the same course.

Anonymous said...

If that is the case and if the dumping of garbage here doesn’t stop I will not be voting for the incumbent local politicians next election.

Anonymous said...

Do not know howbT&V can call itself a local paper. That rag simply repeats stories told in the city papers and ignores ST and PC especially negative aspects. What a waste.

Anonymous said...

I know many of you won't want to hear this, but while I realize those concerts must be an annoyance to many, I do happen to know some people who live on the property who have rather restricting physical disabilities and going out to concerts and shows is hard and above their affordability level. They go to the Oval events and enjoy them. It's not all year round and not every night. Having said that, I have to admit I can't hear them from my apartment (I hear the L train construction noise instead, lucky me), but I don't think they are really worth getting bent out of shape about.

OK. Start firing the canon balls at me.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It depends. I was "chased" out of the Oval with some of these concerts. Of course, that was up to me, as I could have chosen to stay there or go someplace else, without any complaint. And these events are almost daily. It's not just a once in a while thing, but the Oval is now considered "a resource" and that is not just for rest and sitting around. Something has to be "happening," but it was like this other recent years, too. (Except when it was a real oasis.)

The R7 designation is of interest, but the politicians still haven't gotten around to it, even though proof has been offered from not that long ago. It's a stall game, from the looks of it, and so far there are no surprises that is has taken this amount of time and counting.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

As to Rick's "let it bleed" attitude. Well, it is what it is. That doesn't mean we give up.

Anonymous said...

Regarding the noise from the concerts:

They can be truly unbearable, and inescapable, for hours. The noises themselves, and the waves of (PHYSICAL) sound assaulting the body and mind can make normal activities or thoughts literally impossible.

Babies, ill people, during school - children doing homework - can be hurt pretty badly.

Anonymous said...

Not sure why posters on the TA site are blaming Fed Ex and UPS for lost packages here. There are so many illegal tenants and turnovers here that being a delivery person must be a nightmare. My neighbors who I believe are under some sort of subsidy have been here two years with no name on the door. Impossible to keep track of who lives here.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

If we are speaking of the same, the address is clearly different, though I understand about names not appearing in the apartment building.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>Regarding the noise from the concerts:<<

And I don't think the "concerts,' which tend to be loud and screaming, are enjoyed by seniors who would prefer something a little less noisy.

Important to read:

http://thevillager.com/2018/08/09/on-the-s-b-j-s-a-this-time-lets-get-it-right/

Hat tip: TM over at the TA Facebook.

No surprise, but great disappointment, as usual.

>>At the hearing’s conclusion, all his fellow committee members chose the S.B.J.S.A. as the best solution to stop closings and save small businesses. Thirty-two councilmembers sponsored the bill, demonstrating effective democracy at work.

Next, however, the powerful real estate lobby — the Real Estate Board of New York, or REBNY — in collusion with then-Speaker Quinn’s Office, cooked up a bogus roadblock, claiming the bill’s “legal issues” would not stand up to a court challenge. Without an iota of evidence to substantiate this false claim, a vote was stopped on the S.B.J.S.A., which had been certain to pass easily and end the crisis. The process of repeatedly “rigging the system” to stop the S.B.J.S.A. began. Sadly, had democracy worked at City Hall, and the bill been allowed to pass into law, your favorite businesses would still be open today.<<

>>To answer these questions, I asked our local councilmembers, Speaker Johnson, Margaret Chin and Carlina Rivera, eight basic questions, including, “What do you see as the goal of the S.B.J.S.A.?” and “As a present or past proud sponsor of the S.B.J.S.A., what factor or factors of the bill convinced you to give it your full support and made you proud to sponsor it?”

Considering how important this bill is to the future of small business owners and our community — quality of life! — I was surprised, after extending my deadline three times, that still no lawmaker responded. For this talking point, I narrowed it down to only one question: “Do you believe all the legal challenges to the S.B.J.S.A. should be resolved prior to a hearing on the bill? Yes or no?”

With the legal challenges controlling the S.B.J.S.A.’s fate for the past eight years, it is of utmost importance to resolve the central question hanging over the bill. Once again, I was disappointed to receive no response from our three Downtown councilmembers.<<

It is 11 AM and the heap of dirty mattresses and move out garbage is still on the loop in front of my building. I would call this a slum.

I don't think we have any honest politicians in New York State or City. I was leaning toward voting for Cynthia Nixon, but now I hear she has a "hot line" to De Blasio's wife and uses it to get what she wants. It is all Pay-for-Play and the constituents are worth nothing to those people except at election time. The only person I will be voting for is Zephyr Teachout. So far, havening heard of any corruption tainting her.

I think the "concerts" and movies are a form of harassment. A very calculated and deliberate form of harassment. A handful of people attend them while thousands of people are disturbed by them. This is all part of the plan to keep the apartments churning and to kill off the seniors. Cold, calculated and contemptible. Blackstone is very evil and Rick is part of that evil. Sounds overblown and paranoid? Just stop and think about it and observe how the slumification of the property and the tormenting of tenants (particularly seniors and long time tenants) has a corrosive affect on the bodies and minds of those it is aimed to hurt.

Yes, Blackstone is evil and so are its paid enforcers of that evil.

The article goes on to point out the opaque and secrecy of the meetings between Glen and Speyer.

Just calling it like it is with the DeBlasio Glen administration. It is all about how to make the Speyers Rudins Blackstone Schwarzmans richer while replacing me and you with occupants in higher renting housing units.

StuyTown is the epitome of the DeBlasio Glen priorities. Blackstone is getting richer, Tishman Speyer got richer, Fortress Hedge Fund got richer, employees of Tishman Speyer Fortress Hedge Fund now Blackstone Property Management got richer eg Fred Knapp (thanks to all the tireless work by the tenant association!). We tenants got poorer in the wallet and a poorer quality of life.

In fact, I believe that some of my research turned up this kind of noise as a legally recognized form of harassment.

I like "slumification;" it is similar to my "garbagification," and easier to pronounce.

It is good to read people using words such as "tormenting" because that is PRECISELY what they are doing; corrosive is a particularly apt word - and yes, it is all DELIBERATE.

What a fucking joke!

I wonder how clean that resort in Florida was when he ran it? After his performance here I don't think he would get a job as a janitor. The filth and squalor that now pervades the property is definitely a reflection on Heyduk. The idiots signing leases in the Leasing Office on First Avenue should be given a tour of the Loops and the recycling rooms before they sign on the dotted line.

Anonymous said...

It is not a reflection on Hayduk. It is a reflection on his bosses Blackstone. They permit and encourage it. It is largely the result of dorm and transients moving in and out. Blackstone caters to this demo and looks the other way.. Hayduk may be in it for his salary and he is indeed phony, but he isn’t the culprit. If his bosses wanted a clean community, they would have it, Hayduk or no Hayduk.

STAND UP AND FIGHT! said...

I agree that the filth is not due to Rick's initiative. I agree that, to some degree, the transients, including students, are a reason for the mess and filth here.

Yet I believe, strongly, that the ongoing and escalating conditions here are PURPOSEFUL, DELIBERATE, PLANNED.

Research Blackstone and their plentiful ilk. Seizure of people's homes followed by ruination, degradation, destruction, neglect . . this is, pardon my French, please: THE REAL ESTATE BUSINESS MODEL.

The democrats are pouring millions into the upcoming races. Here is a better way to keep your job. Just do a really good job for your constituents. simple as that. Do a good job and we will keep voting you in and even advance you. That is how any job promotion works, so to in politics. So instead of pouring in millions. Just change your ways and start working for those you represent, your constituents. If you fail at your job, then we will fail to promote you or even keep you in your job a la Joe Crowley. As it stands the noise, garbage, hotel strangers on our floor, and dorm in the corner apartment are the reason we are not voting for any incumbent. Not one.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I found this interesting in a confirmation sort of way. Over at the other tenants Facebook, not the official TA one. The specific problem is not important to the response:

>>Elected officials, city officials and STPCV management all have expressed concern, but nothing has been done.<<

Stuy Town Reporter said...

And speaking of the TA, I find it amusing the the number one discussion at this moment is a store that will open up on 3rd Avenue and 9 Street, hardly Stuy Town and hardly meant for seniors and the handicapped to walk over. May as well have posts about the Barnes & Noble store at Union Square.

Anonymous said...

@Aug 13, 11:23 PM: Amen to that! I am not going to vote for any of the incumbents because they do not work for us.

The TA never addresses any of the quality of life issues here. The facebook page is full of crap that is totally unrelated to PCVST. There was a time when the TA stood up to Management and protested against anything that was bad for tnants. We never had the kind of problems that we have now, but it seems the TA has just completely given up. I don't know why it continues to exist. I really and truly have no idea what its mission or purpose is these days and I let my membership slide after more than 30 years of being a member. It really is a non-entity now. Apart from running a facebook page, what else do they do? We haven't had an MCI stopped or reversed in years.

It seems to me that the TA is silent on everything except when it comes to promoting certain politicians, none of which I vote for.

When was the last TA meeting where general membership was invited? They meet with politicians, but not with the membership.

I received the stupid survey and just deleted it. Not worth my time. If he sent out a survey about filth and noise ... well, he wouldn't dare! He wouldn't have the guts to tackle those issues.

I still didn't get this survey, this after saying twice to Management that it appears I am not on their list and them taking down my contact info.

As for signs and squirrels--the signs clearly state not to feed squirrels within 50 feet of a playground. Which means (and there is no other way to take it) that feeding squirrels is okay beyond 50 feet. So if you want no one to feed squirrels period, just say that on the signs!

They have started drilling into the contaminated soil in Peter Cooper--the manufactured gas plant byproducts.
It's near the FDR drive, around 530 E 23rd I believe. two drilling rigs that I saw.

The way to check for the presence of coal tar from the MGP plant is the smell of mothballs.
It smells strongly of mothballs around these two drilling rigs.

I just reported this to the city. they cant start drilling in these contaminated (superfund, JMO) areas without special precautions. They haven't notified residents they're spreading coal tar gas in the air.

PLEASE REPORT THEM VIA 311. I HAVE JUST DONE SO. IF YOU REPORT THEM, THE CITY HAS TO INVESTIGATE AND THEY HAVE TO STOP, at least temporarily.

What we are seeing here is classic Blackstone business model. They buy distressed property and turn it into a slum. They want everybody out. MR and RS. They want the property, as in the land it is built on. They want to empty out the property, raze it and build on it. They are notorious/infamous internationally and nationally for doing this. The property is worth more to them without the buildings. Rick H knows this and he is complicit and is deliberately doing what he is told to do. Blackstone is a notorious slumlord/predator.

I'm pretty sure the TA is aware of this and is complicit. Maybe they will get a payday when the property is finally demolished.

Just live day to day and hang in as long as you can. They want a slum and we can't do anything about it. They have their longterm goal and it involves getting rid of all of the tenants on the property so they can raze it.
The TA and all of our "elected representatives" are in on it and are looking forward to their payday when Blackstone's vision is realized.

I do have to wonder about the structural integrity of the buildings as the construction continues.

Walls are being ripped down all over the property in order to create these new dorm apartments. How many wall removals can these buildings take? I don’t ever see a DOB employee here checking, and at the rate things are going they should have an office here.

Bricks are being removed by the boatload for the below window AC’s. There are anywhere from 10-15 bricks per AC and there are already dozens of AC’s in each building, meaning hundreds of bricks have been removed from each building and replaced with a metal AC that is not meant to support anywhere near what the bricks did.

Elevators should scare everyone. They were not meant to move as much as they do with the current population increases (elevators need downtime too!) and the bigger problems are the moves. Buildings now have service elevators that are not supposed to be ridden by people (not usually followed, but people aren’t supposed to ride them) because of the stress put on them. Our “service” elevators are the same elevators we all ride each and every day.

Solar Panels and antennas are being added to the roofs of the buildings. How much do these things weigh and can these buildings truly support them.

These are the things that truly scare me about this place. Sure there are inconveniences like oval events and dog shit, and mattresses, but these are the things we should truly be demanding answers to from management and politicians.

Where are official architect and DOB reports showing these buildings can truly handle all the added stresses??

I wonder how much longer it will be until there is a catastrophic incident caused by the constant tearing up of the guts of the property. It is terrifying. They have already destroyed the grounds and now they are destroying the buildings.

Blackstone is the main feature along with Fortress. Blackstone is mentioned in the body defending the practice and Blackstone is the big photo at the top of the article.

Here is the quote from the Blackstone employee who works at Blackstone's own "settlement advances" aka loan shark subsidiary company DRB Capital:

"Settlement advances help individuals “meet pressing financial needs and have the financial wherewithal to pursue cases against often-powerful interests,” said Jim Terlizzi, chief executive of DRB Capital, a company that offers such advances and that is owned by Blackstone Group, the private-equity firm."
