Apartments for Rent -- PLEASE!

Tishman Speyer is trying its best to rent out apartments with various pimping methods that intrude upon the tranquility of Stuy Town residents and their weekends. Last week, management blocked the 14th Street Loop near the playground to put up a kid's tumble cage, with that one-year lease-free Mini Cooper nearby and a couple of large signs to get residents excited about getting friends to rent here.

Problem was that management did not (and refused to) put up a road block at the entry to the 14th Street Loop, causing irate drivers to back up and turn around when they came to the apex of the Loop and the blocking pimping activities there.

And today, a Z100 stall popped up at the Oval to pimp a free one-year lease of a Stuyvesant Town apartment to residents who, because they already live here, are ineligible for the contest!!! Or, more accurately, the pimping was directed at the non-residents from the Lower East Side who converge at the Oval (trespassing?) to sunbathe here and take up space that residents could use.

There used to be a waiting list for these apartments; now they can't friggin' give them away. Sick.

Hrmmm maybe spend the money and energy making StuyTown a better place to live, then they'll come, then for sure they'll come!

Just an idea, I'm sure that the prospective renters you attracted that come and step over dog feces to get to their possible new home will still love it...

I wonder if the brains (or what passes for brains) at Tishman Speyer ever ask themselves what it was that made the Stuyvesant Town such a desirable place to live BEFORE they turned it into the dorm/transient/carnival community that it is now?

My wife has a fantasy that TS will consider their purchase of PCV/ST a total wash and sell it to a buyer who will revert the community to its glory days. First idea to get rid of the college kids: If your name is on the lease then *you* need to meet the income requirements; no more co-signing parents.

Ah, many of us have the same fantasy as your dear wife. Perchance to dream. Many of us would welcome back the old Mother Met with open arms. Just imagine, no whooping, puking college kids; a security force that is well trained, visible and effective; landscaping that doesn't look like a disaster area because it's done by trained groundskeepers who take pride in their work; clean buildings that don't stink of garbage; a service department with skilled handymen, plumbers and electricians who can take care of maintenence requests which are handled by a competent and responsive clerical staff. I'm getting all misty-eyed here. Sadly, all of the above are concepts totally foreign to Tishman Speyer. They don't have what it takes to achieve or restore all that.

"Get Met. It pays."

My husband and I were in the elevator with a veteran maintance man. He was murmuring "Oy Vey" to himself and then said "It was better when Met Life owned this place". We agreed and he added, "even Snoopy was happy then".
