Pathetic Security Gives Up on Stuy Town

Faced with a lack of motivation and will power from higher powers (including our rotund Security Chief) to make sure that the rules of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village are being followed, our complex's security force has just about given up. They've taken down the sign at the window of the Oval guard booth which said that bicycle riding is prohibited and have put in place those ugly green barriers at four Oval points to slow down, but not stop, cyclists. These barriers are a godawful visual blight and are a pain in the ass to both pedestrians and joggers, who must twist their bodies to maneuver through the maze. WHAT A FUCKING STUPID IDEA. Whoever thought of these barriers should be FIRED.

Furthermore, security is now allowing impromptu dog runs right in the Oval area, with gatherings of dogs off leashes and the continual use of the garden and grass areas by dogs.

Security may as well start wearing badges that state "I Surrender." What a sorry state we are in now.

I realize that Security's primary function is to keep us safe and go after or respond to calls concerning criminal activity in the complex, but surely if quality of life issues were addressed by Security it would lead to a safer environment. When quality of life issues such as dog/owner scofflaws, loud partiers, etc. are addressed and rules are enforced it leads to a safer environment where criminal activity tends to decrease. The curent chaotic "anything goes" environment at PCVTV and the apathy and indifference of Security will, in my opinion, encourage the criminal element of society to hang out and prey on people on the property because they will sort of blend in and know that Security doesn't give a damn about what's going on. That said, I think our landlord (whoever the hell that is!) should increase the Security force, hire better caliber personnel and pay them decent wages so they at least have the skills and incentive to do the job.

Cool. Looks like I can do my bike laps around the Oval again!

Thanks for the heads-up dude STR!

You didn't read correctly, if that's what you think. Those green barriers will make your bike laps are chore. Sorry.

Maybe it will take someone getting hurt and suing Tishman Speyer for negligence before the rules are enforced.

I'd heard that bicycle riders had low sperm counts; I guess they also have low brain cell counts.

I knew Adam Rose was lying at the last TA meeting. He bragged about the new security chief. Call Adam Rose (hey, he told us to) and complain. Document the offenses.

Do we know for sure that we have a new security chief?

There is no "new" Security chief, what Adam Rose was referring to was that it was he who originally hired the current chief when Rose ran the property (just before Speyer).

Nothing has changed here yet. TS still runs the property, the Security force is still in a diminished state, and their marching orders are "don't piss of anyone paying MR rent".

As deputized Peace Officers, it's a dereliction of duty and civic responsibility to ignore quality of life crimes that now occur here every day. Public consumption of alcohol, failure to curb and pick up after pets, violation of leash laws, parking laws and other infractions all are ignored and unenforced. It's high time that the NYC Finance Department revoke their Peace Officer privilege, and restore NYPD enforcement to our public streets. The inconsistent and preferential application of law enforcement here is a clear denial of due process to the majority of the tenants.

I actually just saw the sign that says bicycles prohibited up again. I'm lucky in that I don't have to go through the green gates in the morning when they haven't put them up yet. But during the rest of the day, it is ridiculous to have them there.

Also as an aside...though this would be really helpful to me...does anyone know how many laps around the Oval you need to run a mile?
