Stuy Town: Nothing to Commerate D-Day, Nothing for the Lives Lost and the Casualties

From the Wall Street Journal: "At a ceremony in Portsmouth, England, commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day, world leaders honored veterans by reading excerpts of letters from soldiers who participated in the landing in Normandy."

Stuyvesant Town, which has recently promoted its special Gay Pride event and upcoming march, was silent on this, though the rest of the world wasn't. I saw a WW 2 veteran at the Oval, commemorating the event. Even without a part of one leg, he felt it was important enough to honor the day and those who lost lives or limbs. Stuy Town felt differently. There was no mention of the event, and none of flags were even lowered in respect.

From Wikipedia. "The Allied casualties figures for D-Day have generally been estimated at 10,000, including 2,500 dead. Broken down by nationality, the usual D-Day casualty figures are approximately 2,700 British, 946 Canadians, and 6,603 Americans."

This is really disgusting. Despicable. Stuyvesant Town and PCV were build for WW2 veterans who survived the War and came home. D-Day was one of the most important missions of the Allied Forces and thousand of brave and patriotic Americans perished on that day. The fact that this shabby, tacky "management" couldn't make some effort to commemorate this historic and course-of-history-changing event is really pathetic and inexcusable.

Management goes out of its way to bombard us with all kinds of tacky (and poorly attended, ergo unwanted) "events," but they can't muster up the decency, patriotism and sensitivity to pay tribute to those who perished on D-Day on the 75th anniversary of that extremely important historic event that claimed many American lives. I wonder if there are (or were) any of the survivors, widows, children and grandchildren still living i PCVST?

But hey ho! we have salsa, chips and execrable "musical" events to keep us happy (or angry) so we can't except decency and patriotism from an outfit like Blackheart and its minions. Eh, Rick? Got a nice BS glib answer for that?

I guess they figured that since they had a Memorial Day event, no need for a D-Day event. I just don’t get it. They did not have to have something big, maybe just some flags at the Oval and an email blast commemorating the day. Have something. But they are toneless and clueless.

I saw two WW2 Vets that day. Both in wheelchairs. I thanked them.

Hi Stuytown Reporter!
I'm a grandchild of 3 WW2 vets that moved here. I also am still here!

Just for the record, the tenant rent protections that will now wait for Cuomo are very positive. That said, unless I am wrong, these protections can be challenged in court, and I expect that they will be. So it ain't over until the fat lady sings.

My dad was a member of Darby's Rangers, WWII vet who moved here. I am still here with my children.

I'm amazed, I must say. Seldom do I encounter a blog that's equally educative and amusing, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.
The issue is something not enough men and women are speaking intelligently about.

Now i'm very happy that I found this during my hunt for something regarding this.

I hate to say it but even with this being the 75th Anniversary of D-Day and the significant press it has gotten, one of the major demographic groups here (the college dorms) don't know anything about it.

So they don't teach modern history in the colleges these days? Even if the kids (whose minds are only focused on their iphones) don't know about D-Day, Management should. Even Rick must have heard of it, dumb as he is.

Great Post STR. Not always in agreement with your posts, but thank you for recognizing managements lack of patriotism and lack of respect for the original residents. Most of those original residents raised their families in ST. Having grown up in ST, it seemed that every kids Dad (and some Mom's, including my own) were WWII vets. Many were decorated and some had permanent reminders of their time over there (including my Dad). This sort of remembrance ceremony doesn't fit well into modern day marketing plans. Pride (not that there is anything wrong with that) does and I must say that it has gone overboard. Thank you.

If Rick and his vile crew could evict the few remaining WW11 vets to extract a few extra dollars rent, they would do so in a heartbeat.
Everything they do is for show and to lure some more suckers into renting at this overpriced housing project.
And Shameless Susan would would repeat her mantra, "Just Call Rick".
Vile, avaricious, heartless phonies.

Anonymous said...

Maybe they should have something big to honor(?) Rick's birthday. Or what about installing a bronze statue or bust of him in the Oval? Susan could unveil the latter, and they could also have free chips and salsa at the ceremony....

Not to mention it is one of the seven deadly sins...

Just saying..

Thank you STR.

No patriotism or thanks for the people who this complex was designed for.

But how about food truck giant lawn game night? That’s alright with our new demo. Let’s do that instead of honoring people who put their lives on the line.

CRACKSTONE sucks

From "Inside Airbnb"

http://insideairbnb.com/new-york-city/?neighbourhood=Stuyvesant%20Town&filterEntireHomes=false&filterHighlyAvailable=false&filterRecentReviews=false&filterMultiListings=false

Post above cited map link in browser and zoom down to PCVST.

A specific "Stuyvesant Town" search indicates at least 28 active Airbnb hotel listings inside PCVST offering illegal short term lodging for illegal, unidentified transients.

Images depicted in expanded search of immediate vicinity outside PCVST reveal additional obviously illegal Airbnb PCVST hotels offering illegal short term lodging for illegal, unidentified transients.

Some illegal PCVST hotels posted on Airbnb solicit illegal, unidentified transients paying daily hotel rates as high as $300-$400 per day.

Some illegal PCVST hotels and hosts receive a shocking number of guest reviews posted by numerous illegal, unidentified transients previously lodged in illegal PCVST hotels.
From insideairbnb.com
"Airbnb guests may leave a review after their stay, and these can be used as an indicator of airbnb activity (although not all guests leave a review, so the actual booking activity would be much higher)."

A few illegal PCVST hotels are listed by nonresident professional "hosts" posting additional Airbnb hotel listings elsewhere.
From insideairbnb.com
"An Airbnb host can setup a calendar for their listing so that it is only available for a few days or weeks a year. Other listings are available all year round (except for when it is already booked). Entire homes or apartments highly available and rented frequently year-round to tourists, probably don't have the owner present, are illegal, and more importantly, are displacing New Yorkers. Even private rooms or sublets have also traditionally been homes for many New Yorkers, so renting them to tourists instead also reduces housing supply."

Blackstone P.R. strategy is to assume unapprehended perpetrators committing crimes inside PCVST are nonresidents following PCVST resident victims into the PCVST complex and/or piggybacking careless PCVST residents into buildings, then lecture us about refusing entry to strangers. We have no idea if these criminals are transients illegally lodged in illegal PCVST hotels.

Blackstone does not give a Flying Fu#k about legitimate PCVST resident safety and QOL.

No wonder there are so many suicides here. It's an unsupervised anything-goes hotel/hostel/flop-house/brothel community. Lots of drugs, sex and rock 'n roll in The Sty. Management encourages it by turning a blind eye and deaf ear.

Is this the way Blackstone manages all of its properties? What was that place in Florida that you ran, Rick?

Anonymous said...

The Pride parade here is nothing more than a sales pitch, as are the concerts etc. Virtually no one rents here because of those events but since Blackstone is so hated globally and SPS/Beam Living is so incompetent and everyone knows it, they are so desperate to con people to move here they will literally try anything. They don't care who they insult/harm to do so. Prepare for more crap for the next few years before someone at one of the companies finally says "this isn't working and we're pissing money away for this shit". That's when they fire Rick, Kehoe, Julie the cruise director etc.

I know that Blackstone is well aware of these Airbnbs as is the TA. They can claim ignorance all they want but I see so many of these tourists on the property every day. Hey, they fill apartments. I agree that this is dangerous to the community.

Looks like they’ve added another “amenity.” $40 bus rides to Rockaway this summer. Why in the hell would I spend $40 to sit in a bus that undoubtedly will be sitting in traffic on the Van Wyck when I can pay $5.50 and take an outside traffic free ride on the ferry??

About D Day, veterans and Blackstone:

Approximately a year ago, our seemingly permanent very own head of "we will evict your behind and everything else of yours out of here" head counsel Fred Knapp proudly proclaimed that Blackstone "hires more veterans than anyone."

. . . lots of possible comments, but I'll leave that to others.

It is particularly dangerous to the community given that we have cut-to-the-bone Security - and the Security Officers we do have are instructed to turn a blind eye to everything that goes on.

I agree about the TA knowing about all this stuff. More likely than not that's what the 100k payment from Garodnick and continued payments from Powers goes to. Right in the TA's members pockets as hush money on behalf of Blackstone. No wonder Al Doyle won't open the books. If he did he would end up in jail.

If you're a sucker from one of the Flyover States, you are not going to know you are being "taken for a ride." LOL!!

Vichy TA Board will dissolve PCVST TA and burn the books before revealing how they betrayed 25,000 neighbors/constituents since Speyer walked away.

That's a lot of accusation without any proof. Could be considered libel. And no, I'm not a member of the TA board and am banished from their fb page for being too outspoken in my thoughts. I just don't think it's right to say some things about individuals without any kind of proof. Those are very strong accusations. I agree the TA is pretty useless when it comes to the QOL here, but that doesn't mean they are criminals!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I have to caution, once again, about saying things that are too accusatory or personal, even if that person is a member of Stuy Town's Blackstone team. I trust people know where I stand, and once in a while I get too "hot under the collar," but I try to restrain myself. Not always succeed.

Didn't Blackstone say they were going to find the Plaque that was removed from the property and reinstate it?

If you are who I think you are, that’s not why you were banished. You were banished because you NEVER shut up on that page. EVER. People were sick of you commenting ALL THE TIME. You were relentless either because you couldn’t help yourself or didn’t want to, so you left them no choice but to ban you. You need to take responsibility for what happened to you.

TWO large RATS observed scurrying outside of the eColi Five Turd Cafe patio garbage cans on my late night walk at 3:30AM.
Lovely!
Never one to miss an opportunity, the ever vigilant Shameless Susan was trying to sign them up for a $50 membership to the Tenants Association.
She offered them a chunk of cheese and endless Oval "amenities" as an inducement to fork over the fifty but the rodents declined.
"Even the garbage here stinks", the much maligned four-legged creatures lamented.
"Not to worry", the ever cheerful Susan retorted, "No problem. Just Call Rick!"

11:10 PM, that could apply to many people! Quite a few have "disappeared" suddenly!

Wait a minute, Mr Know-it-all-know nothing." I was banished by the TA over a year ago for telling them I thought they were fucking useless. I still hold that opinion, but I don't think they are bent or on the taKE. My family and I are moving out of here at the end of September and I don't care if the whole stinking place falls down after that. It has become a SHITHOLE SLUM.

Anonymous said...

what happened to him? omg

“...I was banished by the TA over a year ago for telling them I thought they were fucking useless.”

If you felt that way, why were you even on their FB page? And, if you used that kind of language, I can understand them banning you. There are people on their page who disagree with how they handle things and say so and haven’t been banned, so maybe it’s not what you said but how you said it.

Sometimes tenants here get very frustrated at the lack of action of the TA especially over the winter with the heat issues and the slumlike conditions here. This TA and management is enough to drive anyone to using foul language.

The TA's treasurer was disbarred, disbarred for financial impropriety. It's not a huge leap to think they are not honest with their funds. They could open the books, they won't. Act guilty and people will think you are guilty. I have no problem believing they could be criminal. If they are not that would be easy to prove.

Give the link for the proof, please.

The TA guy that was a disbarred lawyer is no longer on the board. He was the neighbor of Blackstone's Jon Gray in the Hampton's. The article was in the T&V of all places. I cant remember his name, Sheehy, Sheehan or something like that. He over billed his clients if I recall correctly. Someone out here will recall, I am sure.

Anonymous said...

Close but no cigar...

It was John J Sheehy. Not sure if he was disbarred. He was not Jon Grays neighbor but another Blackstone executive in the East Hampton's. Below is the link to the T&V article. The comment section is where the idea of disbarment may have come from.

More on the TA's former treasurer...

https://caselaw.findlaw.com/ny-supreme-court-appellate-division/1073122.html

"In late 1993, after a major billing problem involving overcharges at the law firm of Rogers & Wells came to light and while an internal investigation was still underway, plaintiff, a 55-year-old partner for over 20 years and responsible for one of the firm's largest clients, accepted, in writing, “full responsibility” for the “serious and systemic” billing problem and resigned from the firm's executive committee and as head of the litigation department.   In December 1994, the firm's executive committee met and agreed to ask plaintiff to withdraw from the firm."

It appears he was not disbarred but asked to leave the firm.
