Unbelievable but Very True. Citibank Bikes Enter Playground 9.

This is the way part of Playground 9 looks now. The Citibank bikes will be here shortly.  Money, money, money. Profit before people. I told you Rick was here to make the medicine go down. I'm sure there is more medicine coming up.

Update 6/20: What greets everyone who clicks on Stuy Town.com in this transport section. Very large (I reduced the photo), and, yes, Rick approves.

Can we now say that Blackstone has been a devastating landlord to this community? Or are more examples needed?

BTW, another area I will lose in the morning for peace and quiet.

Also don't discount that the Five Stuy Cafe needed kids to be farther away. Works well for them.

This is not playground 6 but playground 9, the basketball playground next to the First Ave loop. This is an outrageous violation of the R7-2 zoning law which forbids commercial development in the interior STPCV. And please, SPS will tell us that this is a “resident amenity” since one needs an ID card to access playground. BS. In an earlier thread at the STR blog, a poster warned us about this and that prediction has become true. We need everyone here to contact Keith Power’s office about this ASAP.

That is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! Rick is one money-hungry, callous, corporate prick! Loathsome POS!

I changed once I saw my mistake. Generally, I also read through my post when it's published, and that's when I noticed the error.

I would think it is a violation, but it will be sold as a "resident amenity" for sure.

Gotta make money.

You go Rick!

What this tells me is that the only place on this property where you “can’t” ride your bike is the oval. I use cant very loosely! Rick is a phony that has destroyed this property. I don’t care about him doing Blackstone’s work - he is the face of Blackstone here and that is what history will remember.

He’s obviously past the point of caring about his reputation or any of the people that live here for that matter. When something bad happens here (which is inevitable) and the lawsuits pile up, I can all but guarantee that Blackstone will point the finger at Rick and say they had no idea what was going on here and all decisions were made by him.

That ladies and gentlemen will be the karma that Rick has coming to him. For choosing a paycheck instead of speaking up for the people and history of this great property.

Edmund Dunn said...

Also this is coming as well, a classic deflection from the real issue. They, the "cheerleaders", are going to say that if you are against the bike docking station, you are “anti-bike”. BS. FD, I am generally pro bike. The issue is the rule of law, specifically the NYC zoning law.

1. I wrote about this as soon as I heard it, weeks ago. Note that THE BIKES ARE PLACED EXACTLY WHERE THE "GET THE HELL OFF THE BIKES HERE" SIGNS ARE POSTED.

2. Edmund - you are exactly right, of course: contact the good councilcreep Powers. EXCEPT he not only does not give a good goddamn, he's in bed and down the sewer with real estate predators. Remember the lies lies lies lies lies last spring and summer about his HELP regarding the goddamned Oval concerts and "events?"

Epstein was even less helpful and more imperious about all of it.

OF COURSE, IT IS A VIOLATION. JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING THEY HAVE DONE HERE, ARE DOING, AND WILL DO (sounds like the deity, huh?) IS ILLEGAL, DANGEROUS, WRONG, DESTRUCTIVE.

Civil disobedience and more.

Send an e-mail to quietenjoymentnow@gmail.com to organize

And see, we CAN resist and win: Tuesday and Wednesday night inaugural HELL SEASON were postponed due to planned bad weather! ("FAMILY NOISE IDIOCY DUMB AND DANGEROUS GAMES TUESDAY EVENING" and "WEDNESDAY NIGHT WE'LL BLOW YOUR EARDRUMS OUT WITH AT LEAST FOUR CONTINUOUS HOURS OF MOVIE SURROUND SOUND")could not happen due to inclement weather which I personally arranged!

(Not really - but I'd like to think that someone or something IS helping us!)

Does Keith Powers get kickbacks for turning a blind eye to all the egregious abuses this vile "management" has inflicted upon us? They can't even leave the children's playgrounds alone. In fact, they're not content with ruining them so the kids can't have fun, but they make them dangerous to boot. Some kid is going to me killed or maimed for life due to Blackstone's insatiable greed and Rick Hayduk's total indifference to what happens to other people's kids.

Blackstone and their implementor, Hayduk, have totally destroyed this place and made is a dangerous as sending your kids to play in the middle of the FDR. With the legalization of e-bikes and e-scooters just around the corner, it is going to be too dangerous to go outside! I hate what Blackstone and Hayduk have done to this place and I hate our useless, corrupt politicians and TA that turns a blind eye (or takes a bribe) to look the other way.

I hope they all get their come-uppance in a very serious way.

A first... Stuy Moms and the STR blog posters are in agreement on this issue! It seems like the pushback on this issue will be strong, and should be used as a measuring stick for pretty much everything going forward.

If the pushback is as strong as it appears it will be and nothing is changed, then I believe there is no hope left for this place.

Anonymous said...

"I hope Hayduk never goes into the hospitality business on his own dime because I'm sure his reputation here will follow him. Imagine staying in a hotel run or owned by that turkey!"

I doubt very much that Rick Hayduk has very much (if anything) say in what goes on here. Blackstone tells him what to do and not to do and he has to do it. It's what they pay him for and I'm sure he has a family to support and bills to pay. There is some idiot or idiots in Blackstone's "marketing" department who comes up with all these ridiculous ideas. Only some brain-dead hayseed could come up with these Oval events, chips, salsa, BYOB ideas. That someone knows the mentality it is catering to. As for the bikes and ruination of the playgrounds, just more of Blackstone's mentality. Money is all that matters to these people. It is their god.
I tend to think that Rick must sometimes feel embarrassed and ashamed that he works for and does the bidding of such lowlife scum. Most of the big players in Big RE are of the same ilk and money is all that matters to them.

I’ve heard complaints on the noise from the basketball courts in the playground for many years. How do you think people will feel about the slamming of bikes back into the docks 24/7? That’s a loud and jarring noise. Poor folks around that park.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

"Peace and quiet" is becoming more and more of a joke, a cruel joke for those who would like real peace and quiet.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Unless I sit at the far end, near the loop itself, one of my favorite spots, sitting on a bench beside Playground 9, is gone. It is taken over by the sell and use of Citibikes. Even if the number of residents cheering the Citibikes at Playground 9 is low, Management/Blackstone will still promote it as a "residential amenity." The actual numbers who are at Oval Movies is very low, but residents can't get rid of it, no matter what. It is a "residential amenity" and will be, and is, promoted as such.

Anonymous said...

Pushback here does nothing. The TA is in bed with management and the local pols do nothing. There is no hope. The critical issues of no heat and noise pollution in the Oval were never addressed effectively. Hayduk meets with tenants and listens but does not do as he says. Powers as well does not act.

Anonymous said...

Stuy Town Reporter -

I DO believe that we COULD get rid of the movies, and the bikes, and all of it.

The one catch is NUMBERS/ORGANIZATION/COURAGE.

If a group or groups of us DISRUPTED all of this dangerous, illegal, immoral, suicide-inducing and murder-waiting-to-happen activity (e.g., running over a person so that they die of their injuries; producing stress on an ongoing basis and at such a level as to result in a failure of the immune system to adequately resist cancer, etc; levels of noise preventing sleep to the extent thought disorders and hallucations occur such that life-threatening behaviors are induced), then it would end.

We would be justified and within our rights to disrupt and stop all of these occurrences.

Thus far, there has been no WILL to stop it.

Anonymous said...

As I’ve said, every company has its puppet and for Blackstone that is Rick. Yes, Blackstone makes all the decisions about what happens in this place, but the minute anything goes seriously wrong the finger will be pointed at the puppet. The company comes before the puppet, and you can’t seriously believe that anyone at 345 Park Ave will take the fall!

And all I can say is that at this point he will get what he deserves. He lives on this property and sees what’s going on, unlike the suits on Park Avenue, and he lets their ideas continue to destroy this place, so that’s on him. I would rather a manager who doesn’t pretend to care about this place instead of a phony like we currently have.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>The one catch is NUMBERS/ORGANIZATION/COURAGE.<<

I agree in a way, but nothing has stopped it yet. Sure, if even a quarter of residents would protest that would make some noise for sure, but the numbers are very low. Look at the TA. A failure.

The only way to stop it is in court. But there you need proof and more proof. Photos, videos, etc. And even then, there is no guarantee....

How come this shitty management is allowed to get away with all kinds of illegal activity? They have commercial enterprises on the property; they pack three or more unrelated people into apartments; they violate regulations pertaining to noise and peace and quiet with their crappy Oval "events," and they do nothing about dangerous cyclists on motorized bikes zooming around the property, endangering the lives of pedestrians. They obviously pay a lot in bribes and hush money to our elected so-called representatives as well as the 13th Pct. I know that money talks, but around here it absolutely screams! Dirty money being paid to dirty people, especially the politicians. It really is sickening. I see no point in voting for any of these jerks, e.g., Powers, Epstein, et al., because they are totally on the payroll of Blackstone.

Hayduk is a disaster. If he had been working for a reputable enterprise he would have been fired a long time ago. He's a slick-talking con artist and I hope he goes away sooner, rather than later. Problem is, he will probably be replaced by someone just as bad. The only way to avoid further deterioration of the property is for our elected "representatives" to turn honest and grow a pair. Doubt that will happen though.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I doubt much will happen. This property is under the control of Blackstone. Rick is their representative. As Blackstone speaks, Rick does. I do not separate him from everything we see around here. I do not give a "free pass."

Civil disobedience:

Yes, it can work. What would be necessary is a DAILY PRESENCE of residents, and perhaps others, WHO WILL NOT RELENT.

People at each "event;" people blocking murderous bastards on bikes, skateboards, etc. (By "murderous bastards on bikes, etc." I include adult residents as well as invaders and delivery people); people causing LOUD commotions/interruptions of "concerts" and other illegal and damaging bullshit.

The list goes on. Maybe once this got going, with possibly DAILY picketing of 345 Park Avenue (the address of NYC Blackstone headquarters), some of us brave souls could also begin a hunger strike.

I guarantee you: ENOUGH PEOPLE EVERY DAMN DAY AT MOST ILLEGAL AND DANGEROUS INFRACTIONS would garner publicity and pressure the likes of which these s.o.b's have not had to contend with yet anywhere on the globe.

Politicians bought and paid for by Blackstone? Of course. The local police precinct bought off as well? Certainly.

Protests, picketing and similar actions have brought down entire governments. Yes: arrests, tear gas, acoustic bombing, dogs, police brutality. But long enough, persistent enough, and popular enough, and THINGS CHANGE; the current sadists are ousted.

As I wrote, if the WILL were there, together with COURAGE and NUMBERS, we could stop these sociopathic killers (slow killers rather than fast killers, that is) in their tracks.

The writer, by the way, is not some idealistic young'un with no practical experience in these matters.

Anonymous said...

I spoke with Ben Jacobs from Keith Powers office. He said they only found out about the CitiBike thing the day it happened and they were going to speak with SPS, CitiBike and some city agency, I forget which. So at least in theory they may try to do something. I am not holding my breath but at least they claim to be attempting to find out more info for whatever that is worth. I find it interesting that STR scooped Powers office by more than a week on this issue.

That being said I think if someone were to run against Powers they could succeed as he hasn't really done anything worthy of another term up to this point. The real problem is that his district is much larger than just Stuy Town and as everyone knows he is "the belle of the REBNY ball" so fundraising should be easy for him.

He also loves photo ops to increase his presence, like when he was on the news regarding the City Council's bill about illegal use of placards for parking by police officers. He took his bows on TV but as a quick walk around the neighborhood will irrefutably prove he has actually done nothing about the issue but pat himself on the back. He needs to put up or move on. Clocks ticking...

The latest spin from RH:

"I wanted to take this opportunity to reach out and offer more information regarding the addition of Citi Bikes in Playground 9. We have received numerous resident comments and continue to monitor social media channels regarding this added service.

Residents have been underserved by Citi Bike due to the lack of space to place docking stations outside of the two communities. This commentary has been very public as written about in different media sources over the past year. Citi Bike has adapted their operations in an attempt to meet demand by replacing bikes as they’re removed and conversely, removing bikes to provide docking upon their return in their current limited locations with some success.

As advocates for low cost, readily available and zero emission transportation, StuyTown Property Services/beam Living wanted to assist Citi Bike in finding locations to address the shortage of bikes available to residents. In collaboration with Citi Bike, we assessed areas throughout the two communities for the resident docking stations. In looking for a location, we sought four things:

Avoid taking out parking spaces.
Discourage non-resident traffic into the communities.
Avoid the potential increase of bike riding on interior pathways.
Provide Citi Bike with enough space to materially address the shortage of bikes.

With easy access to 1st avenue, we felt PG9 was an ideal location, especially in the unused area on the east side of the playground.

We recognize the docking stations have rendered the water features unusable, we’re addressing this and will do so quickly. We also recognize that the docking stations now occupy former open space in the playground. We share everyone’s love for the open spaces and always take this into consideration when making decisions involving the outdoors. And as it relates to the “commercialization” of Stuyvesant Town, we’re protectors of our oasis and will balance resident needs with preserving our history and feel of what makes Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village special. Somewhat related, we will be removing the Lyft signs and replacing them with “RideShare Pick-up” location signs that will esthetically blend-in.

When we make a change we consider the impact on the community and in this case, we believe the addition of affordable, zero emission transportation wins out over the loss of this playground space. Trust we’ll address the few issues that have risen quickly.

Rick Hayduk
CEO | General Manager"

Where does one begin? I wait for the posters at this blog to dig in but this struck me as frigging unbelievable:

"Somewhat related, we will be removing the Lyft signs and replacing them with “RideShare Pick-up” location signs that will esthetically blend-in."

How stupid are they and how stupid do they think we are? This was a commercial violation from the get go. As is the CitiBike parking dock. EOS.

If I see another photograph of them posing with elected officials (a/k/a Major Assholes) and Rick Hayduk, the biggest jerk I ever came across, I think I will throw up.

They seemed to lose their way as soon as that lying creep, Garodnick, put forward the idea of a condo conversion. We moved here two years ago because we have three young children and this place was so kid-friendly. Playground 9 was a big hit in summer as our kids loved the sprinklers. They will be very disappointed this summer when they see what has become of their favorite playground. It will be a teachable moment to explain to them the meaning of the term "wolf in sheep's clothing" and we have Rick Hayduk to use as an example. It will also help us to explain, as time goes on, why they should always examine the moral character and track record of candidates when they vote.

I don't know how this man sleeps at night, but I'm sure he sleeps well because he has satisfied his masters and that is what his chosen role in life is. He is the smiling face of the worst of Corporate America. God help us all as his kind seem to proliferate and are only happy when they are destroying life in their worship of Mammon.

Yes, there are still peaceful and beautiful places on this property. I will admit that. But to not see that this place is going downhill BY THE DAY, is just not living in reality. This property does not resemble the peaceful oasis it was not that long ago AT ALL!

Loud oval events - all summer every night
Ice rink
Non stop apartment construction
14th Street hell (not Management’s fault, but they’ve done nothing to help)

Filth from:
Oval events
Food trucks
5 Stuy
Move outs

Maybe all of that is the type of place you want to be living in, but not me. I love this place for the peace and quiet that once abounded it.

I like Slick Rick better as a name for him.

"Why are you so bitter? Why not look at things and appreciate them?'

Or as per the great movie that was shown last night on TCM, "The Bridge on the River Kwai":

Colonel Saito: Let me remind you of General Yamashita's motto: be happy in your work.

In hindsight, Rick's email response to the Playground 9 issue is very much like Saito's worldview, his way or the highway:

Colonel Saito: Do not speak to me of rules. This is war! This is not a game of cricket!

Nothing in T&V yet about this latest outrageous assault on our quality of life in pursuit of the holy shekel. Never expect much from Sabina though since she started working for Blackstone.

>>Rick's email justifying the Citibike storage in what was once a lovely playground and is now an eyesore could have been much shorter, but said exactly the same thing, which is: "F*** You." That is just about what his rambling, bullet-point statement said.<<

Basically, yes. He could try this:

"We put in Citibikes because 1) we got paid, and 2) it's good promotion for us. You, the tenants who are complaining, just have to accommodate the changes we are making. We own this place, you don't."

But that is not the sugar that's going to make this go down.

Friday, June 21st, 5:25PM - HORRIBLE noise coming from a "concert" "event" 5 Turd eColi Oval Cafe...what ever you call it, it is an ABOMINATION, Rick.
FU*K you Rick, FU*K you Shameless Susan Steinberg for DESTROYING peace and quiet we are legally entitled to as residents, NOT amusement park patrons.

A "seat at the table" for the TA is like having Observer Status at the Appalachin Meeting. Those of you who don't know what that was (it took place upstate in 1957) can use Google. Having a Seat without a Vote is meaningless, and just another publicity stunt by both Blackstone AND the fake TA.

@12:57 PM: I wholeheartedly agree with you. Rick and his minions never saw Stuyvesant Town before the rape and pillage which took place a year or so after 9/11. I remember coming back off the street on the day of the attack and sitting by the Oval weeping and taking solace from the beautiful tall London Planes and Oak Trees that were whispering softly as the wind blew the smell of death and poison up from the site of the carnage. The trees seemed to be whispering words of comfort.

Rick never saw the property as it was then and he has absolutely no concept of how it was and what it meant to us. It's not entirely his fault that he is so damned insensitive and thick. He just never has had the experience of seeing what we had, what it meant to us and how much we miss it. Maybe he would be a little less heartless and hard-nosed, but maybe he wouldn't.

"But that is not the sugar that's going to make this go down."

There is not enough sugar in the world that could make this go down. Blackstone shoves shit down our throats in the same manner that foi grois farmers shove corn down the geeses throats. It tortures them, rips their throats, chokes and suffocates them and makes them suffer total agony from that and the super-enlarged diseased livers that certain types like to eat. BUT ALL THAT CRUELTY MAKE THEM MONEY AND FOR GOD'S SAKE PEOPLE THAT IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!!! IT IS GOD. GENUFLECT BURN INCENSE TO HONOR THE GLORY OF THOSE HOLY DOLLARS. WHEN WE TALK ABOUT BLACKSTONE'S MONEY WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THEIR GOD.

Bears repeating. Thanks.

Good heavens that looks really ugly really awful with bikes in it. What the fuck were they thinking whores whores whores was it such a windfall of cash to do this? fuck em i say There are a plethora of flats to rent that are nicer than this and more peaceful living

Complaining about the bikes at the 13th precinct community meeting is now a realized full blown joke waste of breath and time.

Time wasted so the condo developers can get on with their plans.

This community threw itself under the bus when they went into business partnerships with the notorious dirty-playing condo developers and lied about Stuyvesant Town being a down on your luck brothel of ill-repute.

They tried to repeat history by lying about Stuyvesant Town being how the infamous McGurk saloons and brothels of the Bowery were.

The truth is the real brothel, history and plans for the Bowery, Lower East Side, East Village, Stuyvesant Town redevelopment into luxury condos is playing out before our eyes.

You can get a Citibike in this dump, but you can't get a fucking plumber even if your toilet is flooding and running down to the the apartment downstairs or even further. This place is run by a Total Idiot.

Didn't they say they would hire more plumbers when they took over? Liars, Thieves, Con Artists.

Anonymous said...

The problem is also in the quality of work. When I had a toilet running issue a few years ago, it took three different plumbers until one finally fixed it. When I had a key break off in my door a couple of weeks ago , the guy ST sent over said there was nothing he could do. I managed to get in myself with a broken half key. They had to get a locksmith over on a Sunday from his home.He was excellent and said that there was no reason why ST maintenance could not have fixed the situation.

@11:02 AM: It's a fascinating story about McGurk's saloons, etc., but I don't know what it has to do with Stuyvesant Town. Are you saying that PCVST is being considered as a place of low repute (or return) and will go the same way as the McGurk establishment? Who are the condo entities you refer to?

"redevelopment into luxury condos is playing out before our eyes. "

This is a bogus post, we will be rentals for at least another 16 years until 2035. This is a typical STR Alex Jones post, making a dubious claim, then showing a link that has nothing to do with the claim.

Do you really think that the addition of a couple of bike stands will prevent the kids from having fun? There are more than enough spaces here for kids. Let’s talk about the scooters, or the non stop yielding to golf carts on the foot paths. There are so many other issues with quality of life here (loud parties, drunk kids, heating, etc. )

Placing bikes in an open space that every tenants rent pays for to benefit a few people is asinine. No wonder Rick is doing it, everything he does is asinine.

Will we be getting rent credits for diminished services? Grifter Rick or incompetent Al Doyle?

Anonymous said...

I have some questions about filing out the form for a rent credit would anyone be able to elaborate on the form?

First, yes I do think it will be detrimental to the kids playing and having fun. Second, why would I give a crap about what you think? Third, I am paying rent for that space and I don't want illegal commercial ventures in the spaces I am paying rent for unless I get a check each month to compensate me for my loss.

I grew up here and have lived here since 1970. I just needed to say how nauseating it is to see citibikes blocking children's sprinklers. Yeah - citibikes are more important than your kids.

Slick Rick sold his soul to the Devil.

Seriously, he is the worst manager we've ever had here. He doesn't give a shit for the tenants. He's the type of person who would smile into your face while putting a shiv in your heart.

Anonymous said...

Yes he is a hypocrite but he follows what the company wants and they want him to run the property this way.
