Attack in Stuyvesant Town

There was an incident Saturday early morning of a young woman returning to her apartment in Stuyvesant Town. An outsider suspect saw her and, inside Stuyvesant Town, at her building entrance, her choked her until she lost consciousness, and then proceeded to try to sexually molest her. A passing resident came across this, stopping the perpetrator and causing him to run away. The police are looking for him, and there are photos of him already. My assumption is that he will be caught soon. The woman is okay, physically.

This Sunday morning, I was over at the area. Right now, I don't have editing capabilities, but part of what I saw, both at the place in question and in other areas, is evident--and then there are regular photos I took, too.

I can't stress enough that I see daily, and many times in each case, the "rules" being broken or ignored. These rules are not as serious as the choking and molestation incident, but because they are broken or ignored, they are serious in their own way. THEY SAY SOMETHING.

_____

And I just saw this, on one of my internet travels. Do you think it may be the wrong time just now to promote Stuy Town after yesterday's incident?

UPDATE: July 4th, morning. The two predator posters I've seen have been taken down. More on this when I get more info.

What happened to the Security force we had before this scum took over? Where they all laid off so that they could hire these incompetents? Security used to be very effective was a definite PRESENCE. The "PS" guys I see now all look like the kind of people the former Security would keep an eye on!

The woman is ok physically, and pretty soon she will be ok financially. Knapp and the SPS legal team have probably already written the check. I don’t blame her for taking the hush money, and that’s exactly what it is, because we will never hear about this again....

I wonder if Management will allow Sabina to report this incident in T&V? Now that is a rag full of irrelevant news!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

My impression is that T&V will have to report it. But there will be quotes from Hayduk, of course.

"What is shoe leather reporting?
Basic, old-fashioned or traditional; specifically (journalism) shoe-leather journalism or shoe-leather reporting: journalism involving walking from place to place observing things and speaking to people, rather than sitting indoors at a desk."

This also is relevant for police work. Not done here anymore for a long time.

Salsa and chips, anyone?

Seems that the perpetrator was also taking a "tour." Unbooked, of course.

ll:31 AM here. Just want to make it clear that the "scum" I was referring to is Blackstone, not PS. They do the best they can with what they've got and they've been neutered by this asshole "manager."

Came in this morning just before noon, both doors wide open. Shut the door that locks. Wake up you fly overs!!! This is NOT smart anywhere in this city!!!

I am rather sick and tired of Hayduk’s excuses and PR. Do not want to hear it anymore.

I'm going to make another request that the language used here to address certain individuals is too salty for my taste. I've been in the Army and even stayed at a SRO in Times Square, so salty talk is not strange to me, but it really doesn't belong here. I've deleted threads that went overboard, and I do not like deletions....

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE:

Someone provide the following details:

1. Who was the CBS reporter who interviewed someone in Stuyvesant Town about the Saturday morning sexual assault? Was this the radio or TV?

2. Please, someone, ANYONE, list the suicides, rapes/attempted rapes here in the last 3-5 years with dates and locations and incidents.

BECAUSE ONE OF US NEEDS TO CONTACT THE REPORTER AT CBS AND PROVIDE HER/HIM WITH THE FACTS.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE POST THE INFORMATION SO THAT WE CAN SPEAK WITH CBS.

Rick will continue to manage this property until something so terrible happens, and Blackstone needs a scapegoat. Will this event and negative publicity be it?? I doubt it, but time will tell.

Somebody needs to pay for the continued crime, but I worry it will be the wrong person/people. There are a lot of people here who sit by and take a paycheck over caring about the safety of 30,000 tenants.

I agree

Sorry, STR. I will try to curb my *=@^ing language. ;-)

I constantly spent my half an hour to read this weblog's
posts daily along with a mug of coffee.

Anonymous said...

Keep the videos coming STR. Now they are throwing garbage and mattresses right on the sidewalk. What a pig sty this is.

Anonymous said...

It was TV but I do not remember the reporter. I think it was on the newscast

Anonymous said...

3:34 I doubt that it will be Rick. He is very popular with many residents here for some reason. I guess his PR skills snow them under. They need to take a look at this chief of public safety. Actually the whole company reeks.

Just reading some posts on other Stuy blogs and the general troubles of the city is very worrisome. And Hayduk is introducing more Citibikes from here for the bragging rights of a new "amenity." The idea of bikes in the city can be wonderful, but the reality of bikes not stopping at red lights or appreciably slowing down for pedestrians is an obvious fact, and should make everyone angry. There are times when I don't know what to do to make some people more aware and more concerned.

Good reporting on the ready availability of blue lanyard bob to fool any enforcement of the resident dog registration rule. Not that there is any enforcement.

Anonymous said...

Security?
Hey, who needs that?
At least we have Oval "amenities".
The horrible, dispuptive, peace destroying "events" are truly an affront to the tenants by a greedy, money grubbing Management who worship only the dollar.
Sickening!

We eagerly await the next platitude, press release and photo opp by Shameless Susan Steinberg and the phony Tenants Association.
Remember their mantra:
"Just Call Rick!"

I have nothing but contempt for that so called TA and their despicable website.

Seems to me that PS's main duty is to be errand boys taking packages that have been delivered to the wrong address over to the right address. That was NOT something they were required to do in the past. But in the past, they were uniformed, trained and were SECURITY officers, not Walmart Greeters and errand boys.

The Stuyvesant Town attack is making all the major newscasts. Saw it on NBC today. Hayduk couldn’t cover it up this time.

Anonymous said...

Yes I saw one delivering a package the other day and ignoring the move out garbage in the middle of the sidewalk. That is a major role now for them, errand person.

Chief Martin should have been fired long before this tragedy happened. She is incompetent and only has the job to shine a light on the diversity of beam living. Epic failure!

Anonymous said...

In some way, Rick, Public Safety, The Blackstone TA and the NYPD are all complicit in this attack as each has been made aware there was not enough security in Stuy Town. They can deny it all they want but they were all aware. I can't remember seeing an NYPD presence in Stuy Town in at least 10 years and every time you call them they refer you to Stuy Town Public Safety. Not sure what we pay taxes for but it certainly isn't NYPD protection. In addition to whatever Blackstone does to shake up their management team (which will most likely be NOTHING), the 13th precinct commanding officer should be gone as well.

I agree.

Our loser of a Manager hasn't seen fit to post notices advising us of the attack on the young woman. Fortunately, the Guardian Angels have done the job. Thank you Guardian Angels.

@5:29 PM: You are absolutely right. We have little-to-no police protection here and "PS" is severely undermanned and undertrained. Rent here at your peril and be sure to carry a personal alarm and some mace or pepper spray. We are going to see more and more women carrying weapons in their purses - legal or not - because the crime in the city in general is under-reported and Stuy has become a target for low-llifes and predators.

Anonymous said...

The above post is so true. The large presence here of young coeds is also a draw for criminals. This place is not safe.

Anonymous said...

It is becoming more evident by the day that there will be absolutely no changes to how things are run here. The status quo of pushing “amenities” at the expense of safety will continue. But hey, they will give PS even BRIGHTER vests to make it seem like there are more of them around. I said it previously after a previous string of crimes, that they gave PS bright vests and placed them in highly visible areas to give the illusion that they increased PS’s numbers, and they will go that route again.

Nobody is losing their job, and we will continue to wait for the next crime to take place here.

He’s still out there, so obviously our hard-working management team isn’t working too hard! They are probably not the lease bit pleased that this is still in the news... their thinking is “4 days later, everyone should have forgotten by now.”

/gree with the poster who said PS shouldn't have to deliver packages to the correct addresses. Absolute absurdity in light of all the rules being broken here.

And the PS officer BSing with the guy who sits at the chess tables (opposite the Stuy cafe) - why are you afraid to tell him to get his shoes off the table when people have to eat there?!!

If the blue lanyard is so readily available Management must make up their own, unique id tags that can't be duplicated. is that too hard.

To all dog owners who let their pets (and children) run through the flowers while your heads are stuck in your phones - oblivious, selfish. Does Mgmt. have to put up more signs to get people like you to obey the rules around here?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

This is the bottom line, so far.

Today I called Stuy Town Resident Services with my question of who took down the posters inside Stuy Town. They were not able to answer me, but referred me to Public Safety. I talked a shot time with PS, and they said they didn't take down the posters, but that anybody could have done that. They also referred me to the 13th Precinct. At that point I kinda had to go through the motions. The 13th operator did not pick up the phone, not that I suspected an accusatory answer.

Getting back to PS.... Their officers go about the area very often, certainly so after this attack on Sunday morning. The poster close by 7 Stuyvesant Oval, where the attack occurred, was from Crime Stoppers, which is a police poster or associated with them. I didn't see the person taking down any poster in the act, so I couldn't say, but there are NO posters inside the buildings unless put up by tenants. And, a crucial point, what is the use of the PS if they don't know anything? These posters outside are obvious. So what does this say about the watchfulness of PS?

This may seem like a dead issue or an ignored one, but it is not.

Anonymous said...

Why does nobody pick up the phone at the 13th Pct? Maybe this should be reported to the Mayor's office or the Police Chief. If you can't get an answer from the 13th Pct, how would you go about reporting if you had seen the criminal out on the street? Do we have to call 911 for everything?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

There are various options if you call the 13th. 911 and 311 are two. "Detectives" is another. My choice: nobody picked up, at least then.
