Uncovered Mattresses on the Loops

The city demands that discarded mattresses be covered by plastic to combat the city's problem with bedbugs. Stuy Town and owner Blackstone do not regularly cover discarded mattresses. What you see below can be seen almost every day.  Neither Management or Blackstone seem to care to enforced this rule. All manner of people who work for Stuy Town, from porters to Public Safety, pass scenes like this by, ignoring what the city dictates.

The photos below were taken yesterday, Sunday morning. The photos are from the Stuy Town interior of the loop along 1st Ave. Something like this is what I see every day. Most of the photos, if they are close up, are disgusting. Today, the part of the loop where I walked, the "mess" hadn't been cleaned up.

Oh, and I forgot....

Yet some people say they have never seen this place look better. I would love to see life from their warped sense of reality! Being optimistic is nice, but sometimes being realistic is necessary, especially when it comes to matters of health. These mattress dumpings are a matter of health, and just like safety it appears that health is not a concern for this management company. Events, events, events... that’s all that matters to them.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Of course, one can ask our "TA" why they don't pressure Management on this issue.... But they are more interested in sitting at a table with Management and not shaking the ship.

Don't forget to send in your dues!

These mattresses are disgusting. Management and the TA could care less. Management does not mention it in their e-mails or updates. They are too busy crowing about the non amenities. This place looks like a pigpen.

Anonymous said...

Overcrowded apartments with mostly transient population gives way to the pig Stuy.

Here's a measure of how far down PCVST QOL has declined and the ongoing infrastructure degradation that is now an integral component of every PCVST resident's daily life experience.

I recall during the Speyer occupation when STR posted images of cracks in PCVST sidewalks that were not being repaired and posed a safety hazard for senior citizens navigating the complex.

Speyer's unsafe sidewalks are now the good old days.

Today's PCVST residents must look through mounds of discarded mattresses, furniture, rubbish, trash and dogshit to locate sidewalk cracks.

Anonymous said...

To say this place looks like a pigpen is to insult pigs and pig farmers. I don't know why the City's health authorities let them get away with dumping all those filthy uncovered mattresses. Maybe they're on the payroll, too.

Hayduk must be a filthy slob himself, but I daresay he has "people" who clean up after him. I can't imagine how he managed to run resort in Florida. Either he was on top of his game then and it was a much, much smaller place than this, or he was really the manager of a run-down trailer park. As the manager of this property, he is absolutely the worst we've ever had. A total incompetent and even Blackstone should be embarrassed to employ him to a manager anywhere. I doubt he could run a fruit stand.

Did you say "cracks"? Boy, have I got some photos for you! To be shown in the future....

The true indicator of how far this place has gone down the tubes is that years ago under MetLife there was a 20 year wait list to GET IN. Now under Blackstone, SPS and Beam Living people can't wait for their leases to end so they can GET OUT. Enough said.

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately Blackstone has taken to renting these overpriced apartments in this dump to NYU and other organizations including the city. They don’t care who lives here.

Anonymous said...

Hayduk ‘s resort in Florida was probably clean and lovely. Black stone bought this property with every intention of running it to the ground and still making a profit which they are doing with transient and student rentals. Hayduk follows their lead.

Anonymous said...

Tru dat. 🙁

Every damn day there is a dirty uncovered mattress on my loop. That is the disgusting view out my window.

Anonymous said...

The pigs don’t even bother to throw out the dirty mattresses under the cover of dark anymore. Broad daylight in the view of PS officers who are headquartered right in the building facing the trash pile.

"Hayduk ‘s resort in Florida was probably clean and lovely. Black stone bought this property with every intention of running it to the ground and still making a profit which they are doing with transient and student rentals. Hayduk follows their lead."

Hayduk can't have much self-respect at this point in his life. I wonder if he really was that good at running the resort. Maybe they thought he'd fit in better in a grimy place like this that had already been trashed to the point of death by prior owners after MetLife sold it. He certainly hasn't done anything good for the place or the residents. He's made life hell for many of us.

I can't believe they thought he was going to improve the quality of life here because all he's done is put more and more unwanted (by most) tacky commercial crap in here; his policy of not letting security enforce the rules and not caring whether people are clog-dancing at 4 in the morning on bare floors with their 9 unrelated room mates, all drunk and high and not caring if people use the elevators to let their dog shit and piss (sometimes themselves do it maybe) and not caring about who is on the property who doesn't belong here, riding bikes, scooters, skate boards and bringing in all kinds of large, not friendly dogs (who will shit and piss all over the place). He just doesn't care how much he destroys people's lives by ruining their lives by turning the place into something it never used to be: a nasty, dirty, unsafe slum. He gets his pay check no matter how miserable are the lives of the people he's affected. He'll be gone sooner or later (hopefully sooner) to destroy another place and Black Stone will probably send in somebody just as bad or worse.

It goes to show you the priorities of Beam Living/SPS - they have used the Instagram page for their property in Queens (Parker Towers) to comment on a photo posted by Stuy Town. Both are Managed by Beam and owned by Blackstone.

If this doesn’t completely confirm what I already thought - that they are using their own people to write good things about the place - than I don’t know what would.

I have been with Spectrum (was grandfathered in from Time Warner) and never had a problem. Love it.

There is a big pile of move out trash outside my building on the 14thSt loop. They throw garbage on top of the pile, even a pizza box. Of course there is a mattress there as well. This is absolutely disgusting and a sanitary violation. I don’t know how this management gets away with it. Also saw several Airbnb’s on my walk home into the property, cannot even call it a community anymore. It is a dump.

Anonymous said...

I, too, have seen lots of Airbnbs walking around going in and out of buildings. Management doesn't give a shit. Just so long as they collect the rent, that's all that matters to them. I don't know how anybody in their right mind decides to come and live here. It used to be a lovely place to live in, but now it is awful. Dirty, noisy and unsafe.

Anonymous said...

That sickening movie noise is blasting into my oval bedroom. The nerve of these trolls subjecting residents to unwanted noise pollution.

Hayduk would be the right person to manage one of those squalid concentration camps on the Border. That would be in keeping with his level of "management."

Anonymous said...

Spectrum gives good service but they don’t give you any bargain. Expensive.

Anonymous said...

That is interesting and now Blackstone is promoting them on the property. Very interesting

Anonymous said...

9:31 PM - promoting what? Spectrum? I can assure you I have no connection! I just happen to like Spectrum! Never had a problem, but I get a good deal because I was "grandfathered in" from TWC. They were charging me more than they should for an internet speed that was not as fast as they claimed. I got a one time rebate (can't remember what) and three months of free HBO for my suffering. The internet speed is not the greatest, but it's ok for me. I like the fact that I get tv on my iPads (useful in the kitchen and bathroom) and it just has suited me for many years - TWC then Spectrum. I have no loyalty other than that it suits my needs and I have no complaints. They're all expensive, unfortunately.

Anybody remember "Manhattan Cable?" Boy! did that ever suck! Worst (but only) service in town and the employees were total morons! We've come a long way!

Anonymous said...

I have seen literally scores of Airbnb'ers come in and out of the buildings with complete impunity.
Is it possible Management doesn't know about this???
I asked Shameless Susan if the Tenants Association was aware of this and she shrugged and said, "Really? Are you sure? Just Call Rick!"
This place has become a stop for transients and nobody cares?
UNREAL!

I want to be careful, as I don't have all the facts. This morning, about 9:30, the posters I've seen of the choking/potential rape incident are GONE. One of the posters was shown on the video blog. Somebody on the unofficial tenants' fb page said that the creature who committed the choking and attempted rape has been seen on and around the property for the last few days. How come he hasn't been caught yet if he's still roaming around?

I think it is nothing less than criminal negligence that Management has removed the posters - NYPD and Guardian Angels posters. They are more interested in pulling in more students (the females being the most at risk of this perv) than they are in protecting the tenants.

Totally no conscience or sense of decency in Management.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I can't believe they are showing the fireworks display on the Oval tonight, followed by the concerts, etc. They must really, really hate the people who live on the Oval. Maybe they are trying to clear those buildings out for some reason. It must be absolute HELL living near the Oval. I think Hayduk has a nasty, vindictive, sadistic streak in him.

Anonymous said...

Tonight, at the Oval, they had TV coverage of the Macy fireworks on NBC. The sound was not bad, could be ignored in our living room but not in our bedroom. 150 people tops. Meanwhile PS resources are allocated to this crap at night as opposed to their primary function “Public Safety” patrols. BTW, Mickeys IC truck was at the 14th ST. loop and I am cool with him. $3 a scoop. He told us that his tax issue has been resolved and his Ave A store will re-open on Monday. Then I saw this SPS email:

“More good news - we will also be airing the Women's FIFA World Cup Soccer Match between USA and Netherlands. Watch it live on the Oval 11 am on Sunday, July 7. “

So even on a Sunday, there must be f****g noise from the Oval. So I guess there will be Oval related noise events 4 days/nights per week. So much for this oasis. But the transient rubes eat it up.

So correct. Just south of 14th Street, it's called the East Village. Duh!

West of First Ave, on Third Ave, it's called Gramercy, 2 blocks away. Duh!

We New Yorkers live in Manhattan. We pride ourselves on a thing called walking. Give it a shot.

Anonymous said...

Why do they have to air these noisy events and movies on the Oval? Only a very, very small percentage of the total population of ST and PCV show up. If everybody who lives here showed up, the Oval would be too small to accommodate everybody - even standing up! Do they think that nobody has home entertainment in their apartments? Nothing this idiotic mismanagement does makes any sense. They annoy and alienate the people who live by the Oval to pander to a few losers who attend these "events."

Anonymous said...

It is sheer hell living in the oval nowadays between the constant loud events and excess move out trash on the 14th St loop. They just do not stop with these stupid unnecessary events. I never saw anything like it. Promoting this crap as amenities. By the way, heard that people were spotted on a roof during fireworks. So much for rules and regulations.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Saw this morning at the Oval fountain area: The "screen" still around for watching on a large monitors whatever Stuy Town is promoting. Two people crashing (sleeping) on a bench. The PS office is nearby, across the lawn. Nothing was said.

This place is really the "pits" in a lot of ways.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I don't want anyone to lose their job, but someone has to be fired. Of the higher ups.

Anonymous said...

Exactly. Then they lie and say that the events are very popular. Real con artists.

Anonymous said...

I walked through the oval early this morning, and also saw people sleeping on benches. I also saw no less than 30 pizza boxes and every garbage can wasn’t overflowing.

But hey, people like July 4 at 10:08am like this stuff. They don’t like to face reality as they live in their fantasy world.

On another note, I don’t mind them showing the fireworks on the screen or the World Cup match either. That should ONLY be used for special occasions like that, not every week, numerous times a week! Things like the fireworks and World Cup final should be special events that bring the community together, but instead it’s just overkill for people who just want some peace and quiet.

I don’t know if firing is the answer with this company as they would just replace a manager or such with another Blackstone flunkie. The only answer is for new ownership and that is not happening. Blackstone’s evil actions are intentional and the people(higher ups) that work for them follow their plans.

Anonymous said...

So true. My building appears to be 50% already. They are the dominant demo now.

I completely agree. However, I wish that Blackstone would hire a manager whose management style replicated Blackstone’s true ideals. I hate Rick and the wolf in sheep’s clothing management style.

I can only wonder if Rick and his management team sit around a conference room table and believe the crap they spew, or if they are all truly nasty and vindictive people. Maybe the rest of the team doesn’t know anything more than what Rick communicates to them, but Rick knows exactly what Blackstone wants, and he presents it with a smile. Therefore he is an evil person in my eyes.

I never forget that. They probably have five seats at the table. Management parasites

Anonymous said...

The people sleeping on the benches are probably homeless or vagrants. No wonder we have such an increase in crime and filth here. MetLife never allowed sleeping or lying on the benches and Security would remove anybody who did that. Security does NOTHING now. It's like we have no Security. Their new title "Public Safety" is because this is a dorm now and Public Safety is what dorms call their security people. We used to have a real Security force and they worked hard and kept this place safe and clean.

Hayduk is a monster. If you talk to him, you can see the smirk and hear the glib comments. I hope they get rid of him soon and put in somebody who is competent and caring. As for the TA, such an organization no longer exists in reality. If they have a seat at the table with Management it is because they are pawns of Management.

12:06, most of what you say is on target. The only thing I disagree with is that if Hayduk went they might bring in someone caring and competent. Not happening. Anonymous said...

Management wants everyone to forget about the crime. They probably wish they could have hushed it up from the very beginning, but since that wasn’t an option they need to quash it as quickly and quietly as possible. Don’t expect to hear another thing on this incident!

The bottom line is that they don’t want the incoming coed demo seeing them and they are their bread and butter renters. Destroying this demo would destroy them although I am sure they can make more deals for city subsidies

We need a manager who has RESPECT for tenants, including the long time tenants. I don't think Hayduk has any respect whatsoever for any tenants, but I do believe that he has the utmost CONTEMPT for the longtime tenants. Those who remember when this place was an oasis in the City are the people he really wants to hurt. The very few people who attend those ridiculous events are mostly fairly recent tenants and are only here for a year or two. Now he's attacking their children by taking away playground space and turning a blind eye to all the errant bicycle riders who could kill or maim a child in a second, maybe they will start to see him for the total creep that he really is.

It has been on his watch that we have seen such deterioration in the quality of life and safety issues. We have been deprived of heat during the coldest months of winter (something that affects babies, young children and the elderly very severely), we have more noise, filth and crime on his watch than we have ever had. More suicides, too.

He should go away.

1:56 , Hayduk is hypocritical and evasive. He also lies about changes he is going to make. That being said, you will NEVER and I repeat NEVER get a decent, caring manager under this ownership, Blackstone. I know long term residents, older tenants who love Rick because he answers their e-mails and talks nice to them. In addition, some of the event goers are long term, older tenants who argue in favor of the events. So although I don’t like Hayduk, he is not mainly responsible for the horrors here, Blackstone Company is. They have Hayduk in here to do their dirty work and are obviously happy with him as he has been here four years. You are wrong about the possibility of getting a good manager here. Will never happen under this company. Please get real.

Some of us went to Powers about legal codes and such. As you can see nothing changed. The TA supposedly has lawyers but they refuse to utilize them for QOL issues as we know they are in bed with management.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>Is there any legal recourse to stop these quasi commercial "amenities"<<

Depends on what your lease states and how much noise is heard by you. You could push, but Blackstone is going to put up a legal fight. I'm sure part of their "reasoning" (which you've heard many times from the cheerleaders) is that if you live in NYC, you should expect noise. I know there was one successful lawsuit when the tenant considered the noise coming from the construction of the office in back of 1st Avenue too much for her livelihood. (She worked at home.) She won, but barely.

Anonymous said...

There are actually very few people who have complained to local pols and management about the noisy amenities. If tenant simply vent here , it will do nothing. We need a strong TA with lawyers as the active protest group is minuscule.

Anonymous said...

Their main reasoning is that “some tenants like “the events. This is used for justification. They will not listen to any compromise or dissent. It is what it is. Unfortunately there are few tenants who speak up against it and we have a TA in bed with management. A losing scenario

Anonymous said...

I think that the reason very few tenants have complained is because the only people affected by these crappy events are the people living right near the Oval. Probably there are a lot of them who just close their windows and tune it out. Considering how few the numbers are of people who attend these things, I'm surprised that Management continues with them.

Anonymous said...

I think that Hayduk belongs in the hotel industry, not the residential industry. He's probably a very good hotelier, but sucks as an apartment complex manager. He tries to push things upon us that belong in the hospitality world, not the "homes" world.

Anonymous said...

"He is rude lately seems angry and condescending also Blackstone should handle this as it's a bad indication of more to come."

He's probably had it with dealing with pissed-off New Yorkers! The flyover people are not as vocal when they're pissed! Also, they are the ones who most enjoy the crappy 10th rate shit they serve up as "entertainment" on the Oval. It's very provincial. I mean, it's not like they putting on an Andre Rieu concert!

Anonymous said...

They say that the attendance is good.It isn’t bad on the first movie but in the second movie there might be 50 maximum. Management skews the numbers.

Anonymous said...

"He tries to push things upon us that belong in the hospitality world, not the "homes" world."

I wish he would push more Security/Public Safety upon us. That's what we really need. Instead of wasting time and money on those lousy "amenities" and "events" he should allocate more money for increased and improved Security presence. What goes down here due to the lack of Security is on his head. Don't tell me that he is only doing the bidding of Blackstone. If that is true, then he should grow a pair and stand up to Blackstone on behalf of the tenants who are paying big dollars to live in this dump (and those who aren't because they've been here a long time and are mostly elderly) and lobby for more Security. How many more rapes, attempted rapes and muggings do we have to have before something is done about it? We have almost ZERO protection at this point. Security never walk around the property, especially at night and anybody can come and roam around the property. It's bad enough that it looks like a homeless encampment with all the disgusting mattresses and other detritus, but now we have vagrants sleeping on the property and generally treating it like it is their home.

Get off your ass Rick Hayduk and do your damned job. Put your idiotic gimmicks aside and be a property manager, not a goddamned cruise director - and not a very good one at that.

Rick Hayduk: are there any women out there, of any age, who have spoken in person with Rick, either in Resident Services or the "Oval Office" and experienced inappropriate touching?

Standing too close, putting a hand on a shoulder or a waist or anywhere else, pulling you in for a hug or half-hug. If sitting on a bench near the "Oval Office," sitting much too close. Any other similar actions.

This is NOT a question related to the "Me Too" movement, nor is it an accusation. I've been told, by a wise observer of human nature, that some people (male AND female) are naturally touchers, and that some people in management or supervisory positions develop that strategy as a way to deal with others.

I am simply curious as to whether anyone has had this experience.

We've established that there is much missing in the thinking department of Robert Vazquez, "Director of LIFESTYLE SERVICES."

Although he was persuaded to move here from Florida, where he worked for Blackstone, I've been informed he is not a Floridian, but a native New Yorker, born and raised here. This surprised me, because he behaves like anything but a born and bred New Yorker where "entertainment" is concerned.

He's been extremely rude to me in the past. A day or two ago, the newest official stupidity and intrusion was parked on the 14th Street Loop, between Playground 12 and 2 Stuyvesant Oval.

He was standing outside of Blackstone's ice cream truck with a sign on the ground in front of it and approximately 3 "Security" "Guards" laughing, talking, eating ice cream. Lovely example they are setting as we are assaulted, raped, forced to listen to illegal and health-destroying noise both inside and outside our homes.

When I told them, and him, specifically, to go away, park their damned truck elsewhere and not in front of many people's homes, I got the usual treatment of "beam living's" "be kind" and "leave people happier than you found them" doublespeak garbage. Translation: nasty, dismissive.

(Take a look at this lying, disingenuous, self-serving crap: https://www.beamliving.com/mission)

Rape, assaults, fires, drug factories, suicides, attempted rapes and assaults, homeless on our benches; dog shit and piss on our benches (people walk in dog shit and piss here every single day and then put their filthy diseased shoes up on the benches. You sit down on it; you bring it onto your chairs, couches, beds --- wherever you sit in those clothes. Think about it. AIN'T NEVER USED TO BE THIS WAY. NO GODDAMN DOGS. NO ONE EVER PUT THEIR FEET UP ON BENCHES. OUR GUARDS WOULD GET THOSE FEET OFF REAL QUICK.)

Flooding of your homes because of old and damaged plumbing ain't no emergency - hey, make an appointment for a week from now as your toilet backs up! And do it on a wonderful portal in cyberspace! "F*ck you" is the message.

I was so hopeful that SECURITY WOULD BE PULLED OUT OF THEIR TRUCKS, OFF THEIR SEGUES, OFF THEIR BIKES, OFF THEIR CELLPHONES AT WHICH THEY GAZE. I WAS SO HOPEFUL THERE WOULD BE FOOT PATROLS DAY AND NIGHT, AND MANY OF THEM, AFTER THE STRANGULATION AND ATTEMPTED RAPE LAST SATURDAY.

Nope. Response? "Let's eat ice cream and yak and laugh in front of 2 Stuyvesant Oval, the location of our so helpful "Public Safety" office!

This has been pointed out before, and completely ignored by Blackstone, by the "government" - politicians,

and even, and most distressingly, by many who live here:

These are homes. This is a residential community. Period. NO ONE gets to EVER "vote" or express an opinion as to whether ANY commercial enterprise may operate here.

NONE. EVER.

It's a freakin' residence for people in which to live. No stores, vending machines, parades, games, babysitting, concerts, cafes, studios . . . NOTHING.

ALL of that is OUTSIDE - commercial.

It don't matter if you like it or don't like it. IT DON'T GET TO HAPPEN HERE. These are homes. They were since Met Life built them. Without all of this shit and misery. For decades. HOMES.

Except if you are social/intellectual/mental morons and/or criminals. Period.

To the people who have expressed sympathy for people living/suffering in Oval buildings and near the f*cking illegal, dangerous and insane "ICE AT STUY" - thank you from the bottom of my heart.

People are being raped and strangled and thrown to the ground and beaten, and driven to jump from their homes to their deaths.

GET A CLUE.

@10:30 AM: I met with Rick Hayduk about a year ago. We sat outside the Oval Cafe and chatted. I had made a lot of negative remarks on Facebook and he wanted to discuss them with me. He was an absolute perfect gentleman in every way possible. He was respectful of my viewpoint (probably didn't agree with it) and was very pleasant and listened to what I had to say with respect. At NO POINT did he do or say ANYTHING that I could take offense at. I'm a not-too-bad-looking woman and know the type you mention in your post. Rick Hayduk is certainly not that type. He is a gentleman in every way.

Maybe we don't all like the way he runs the property when it comes to events, noise, etc. I think he does his best with what he has to work with. I expressed to him my concern about the commercialization and the seemingly shrinking security and he wasn't offended, but wrote everything down on his iPad. He assured me that Security was on top of things. Maybe my complains went in one ear and out the other, but he was pleasant and he is a thorough gentleman and I would hate for silly, malicious rumors such as you describe to get around. That would be total slander.

I can't speak of other management male employees because I haven't met any, other than Wesley, the landscaper and the inspectors who came to my apartment recently - annual inspection and paint inspection. Absolute gentlemen. All of them.

Let's not turn this blog into a cess pool of gossip, lies and innuendo.

@11:00 AM: YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE MONEY! Very well put! Stuyvesant Town is were we live. We go off the property for conduct transactions with commercial enterprises - we don't want them on our doorsteps! We also go off the property for entertainment, food and drink - we don't want it shoved down our throats and blasted into our living and bedrooms!

We would like Stuyvesant Town to go back to being the peaceful, beautiful Oasis in The City that it used to be. We want it run the way MetLife ran it - capably and professionally by people who were qualified for their jobs, whether the job was Manager, Security Chief, Plumber, Handyman, Painter, Porter, Groundskeeper, Tenant Relations, Accounting - all of them!

All of the above is what we miss and we miss it more and more as time goes on the property breaks down to a chaotic, shambles.

>>Let's not turn this blog into a cess pool of gossip, lies and innuendo.<<

I am 100% responsible for what I say and show. Those front pages posts and photos come from me. As to the comment section, I let though most comments, but not all. Some comments I disagree with, but it is not my business to post only those comments that I agree with.

>>He assured me that Security was on top of things.<<

I don't have a personal problem with Hayduk, but this is BS coming from him. LOL. If Security is on top of things, then woe is Stuy Town, and it probably is. I know Hayduk has an iPad, and jots things down. But I write and post not what's on his iPad, but what I see--everyday. It's not a joke that when I go outside I see violations. Maybe it's my eyesight, but I don't think so. People are not looking or they don't want to see or they have a pro-Blackstone agenda.

I lived here for over 30 years, and I have NEVER seen this place look so bad. Yeah, there are nice things here, no doubt, but this place is a mess and getting worse.

Anonymous said...

I too met with Hayduk under the same circumstances. I too do not believe those outrageous allegations. That being said, although he listened to my criticisms, he had a pat answer for everything. Very slick, of course being a PR man. Although he proposed solutions to my criticisms and appeared to sympathize at times, nothing was changed or enacted in response to what I said. This is sad. What is the purpose of meeting with residents critical of the QOL here when you are letting it go in one ear and out the other. I felt this meeting was perhaps an attempt to intimidate me into keeping my criticisms to myself or just a move of pacification.

@2:48 PM: I had a very similar experience. I mentioned to him that the filthy mattresses could be carrying all kinds of cooties, even Hepatitis. He smiled and said "only of you lie on them." I didn't appreciate the glib remark, but he said it as a joke.

As I said before, he was pleasant, polite, respectful and is very much a gentleman. I don't think my comments to him made a dent, but at least he did give me the opportunity to tell him what I didn't like!

Although I do not believe the rumor mongering of a poster above, as far as Hayduk being respectful, polite and a gentleman, I disagree. He is a slick PR guy who I believe is condescending . He listens but does not do as he says he will and has no intention of changing what goes on here.

Hayduk needs to take this mattress tossing seriously, not joke about it. Nothing funny about that .

Anonymous said...

I was referring to people trying to question if he is touchy-feely. We have an uphill battle against this cast of characters that parades around pretending to be a management company, but our fight goes nowhere when ridiculous accusations get thrown around (or even implied).

I don’t like Rick in the least bit and think he’s a vindictive hypocrite, but I have never seen or heard anything that would support that idea. So that is what I’m referring to when I say we need to cut the crap talk and get back to discussing security.

Anonymous said...

"Hayduk needs to take this mattress tossing seriously, not joke about it. Nothing funny about that ."

Totally agree on that. It is tacky, gross and illegal. I was raised in the projects and tossing mattresses was considered an affront to decency there. I don't think Hayduk has a clue when it comes to managing a property. He (or maybe his overlords) have turned this once-beautiful property into a squalid slum. He is just too stupid and arrogant to see or acknowledge that. Mattresses (especially filthy uncovered mattresses) are a violation of the City's Health Code and are widely considered to be the sign of a property that has sunk to the lowest depths that it could sink to. Hayduk will never "woo" us with the tacky events and low-level "entertainment" so long as he allows (even encourages!) the dumping of mattresses on the property. It's about as low class as you can get and he is either too stupid or too arrogant to realize this.

Ric Hayduuk and Susan Steinberg are the two biggest phonies on earth.
One is the overseer of the destruction of the property ( think those "magnificent" Oval "amenities", the dormification, lack of real Security, mattresses strewn all over, filth, shit in hallways, Airbnb'ers galore).
The other is a lap dog for Management, always eager to step in front of a camera, more than willing to troll for 50 bucks, unable to account for the $100,000 slush fund, with ZERO interest in dealing with tenant quality of life issues.
TWO ABSOLUTE PHONIES!

Anonymous said...

Was "Only if you lie on them" actually a Freudian slip? "Lie" is grammatically incorrect.

Anonymous said...

"Hayduk needs to take this mattress tossing seriously, not joke about it. Nothing funny about that ."

That is very true. Uncovered mattresses expose us to bedbugs, scabies and many other "things" that live on them. And NO, you don't have to lie or roll on them to catch these things! I think that the City's Health Department should crack down on Dirty Dick and his penchant for allowing uncovered mattresses to be strewn across the property. For a man who ran hotels, Hayduk doesn't have a very strong ethic of hygiene. Wouldn't want to stay in any hotel he was a part of and he has no qualifications to be a property manager, especially a property as large and diverse as this one.

A few things....

In speaking with a member of the Beam team that was recently unceremoniously terminated, she enlightened me on a few things. As mentioned by another poster, this blog is monitored by Ricky and the rest of his squad. They try to guess at who the anonymous “complainers” are. They openly laugh at tenants issues on this blog and the various fb pages. And yes, they troll us here on STR.

She also told me that this isn’t the end of our public spaces being encroached on by private companies. By the end of the summer, we will be hosting an electric scooter hub on one of the playgrounds. “ the community is screaming for more‘green’ options.. BS

To the trolls: FU and wait until you are marginalized in your life and where you live. It’s coming as Karma is a bitch.

To Ricky: You will get nailed with a zoning violation eventually. There is a lot of crime. It is only a matter of time until someone is killed by an attacker.

To the TA: you are useless. Disband

Stuy Town Reporter said...

There were not many people watching this in the Oval, but it doesn't matter. I don't know if it is a question, but the question may be asked by Stuy Town of prospective renters. "How did you hear about us?" The prospective renter can try to answer and say "amenities" as a matter of filling in the awkward silence--and there you have it. Whatever it is, Oval concerts, Citibikes, it is "amenities" to the prospective renter. As someone living here, you already signed on the dotted line. If you move out, so what? The price of your apartment just gets higher. "Amenities" is very good for those who haven't signed yet. So even if a few new renters are gotten with "amenities," the "amenities" will continue.

Pun intended?

Blackstone StuyTown Property Management Services is promoting this ice cream business two weeks before a suicide at the owners Stuyvesant Town building and another two weeks before the State shuts the business down in a tax seizure.

Stuyvesant Town Property Services is desperate to drum up business to pay a tax bill, but for who? The dead man who suicided at 435 East 14th Street? Blackstone? StuyTown Property Management? Mikey Likes It?

Does anyone know anymore in this story?

To recap:

3 weeks ago there is a Town & Village reported suicide at the Stuyvesant Town building where this Stuyvesant Town resident owner started this ice cream business out of his family's home. 435 East 14th Street Stuyvesant Town.

That must be a lot of taxes owed. On a lot of what? ice cream?

According to Town & Village Stuyvesant Town Property Management gave him the ice cream truck and let's him sell ice cream at two Blackstone properties, here and Kips Bay.

Stuyvesant Town Property Management Chief Executive is quoted a lot promoting this ice cream business just 2 weeks before the suicide and another two weeks before the state shut down. Is he personally trying to drum up business to pay the tax bill even though he says the gifted truck, paid for advertising and selling operation on campus does not mean that Stuyvesant Town or is it Blackstone that is not in the ice cream business?

If the state shut down the store front but did not shut down the truck, then who really owns the ice cream truck business? Stuyvesant Town Property Management? Blackstone? Why didn't the State take the truck too?

Is the federal IRS just around the corner coming after their share of the taxes on the ice cream any day now?

Is this the real reason they are withholding the name of the man who committed suicide or have they released that name?

As someone who faces the Oval. I jumped at the chance to meet some friends at Patty McGuire’s on Third Ave to see the World Cup at 11 AM. BTW; did you know there are no bars here? Great bar, great game, nice company, great bartender. You see, this is NYC, get the f**k out and enjoy the greatest city in the world. The rubes sitting at the swamp Oval on a humid day, so pathetic, so flyover. BTW, as I type this at 4.38 PM, that TV screen is still there. I guess this is now a permanent crap “amenity" feature at the Oval for the summer, nice aesthetic touch. The Oval, a true gem like the Sheep Meadow in Central Park, now just a cheap background for commercial marketing activity. Nice job again, RV, our Carnival Cruise Director.

Anonymous said...

True, but I think very few long term families and couples are buying that amenity crap. I would say that the majority of the rentals now are students (numero one), tourists, combined roomies who don’t know each other,Airbnb, and a sprinkling of city subsidies. I rarely see the same families in my building more than once and many appear to be foreign tourists. You are right about continuing their crap amenities because they also appeal to tourists and short term renters. I would bet that there are now people staying for 3-6 months now. At the cafe on a Friday night, aside from a scatter of old time tenants, many appear to be tourists and possibly families of short term business people here for brief periods.

A caution: There is an effort by Stuy Town to paint a rosy picture of what happens here. These people get paid to do this, but a resident doesn't. No, they would not. They wouldn't be permitted in NYCHA properties either. This place has quite literally gone down the toilet. I could not, in all conscience, recommend this place to anybody. In fact, I feel it my duty to warn people to not even think of this place. I woman I work with was inquiring because she wants to move from Bronxville to somewhere in the City. I told her not to even think of renting here because she would deeply regret it. She was surprised, but I have invited her to come and visit and see for herself. I also referred her to read this blog if she wants to know how many of us really feel about the total downturn of the quality of life these days. She was under the impression that this was pretty much the way it always was. As she is a very clean, quiet person (recently widowed), I think she would be very unhappy here. However, the invitation stands and she can come see for herself. It won't be the Leasing Office Tour she will get! I also warned her that we get very, very little heat in the winter months. She has a chronic bronchial complaint, so she would definitely be very unhappy here.

Regarding Mikey and his ice cream business: I have known Mikey and his parents for literally decades. They are the nicest, kindest, most honest, caring and hard-working people you could ever wish to meet. They live in the building next to (445). If Mikey is having trouble paying his tax bill, it could be Management is helping him out by lending (or renting) their van so that he can continue to remain in business while he sorts out his problems with Uncle Sam (or Uncle Andrew). I have to believe that there is some good in the Management here! I really want to believe that there is some good in the Management here!

His ice cream is truly delicious. He has worked so hard to get that store going and keep it going, I wish him all the luck in the world.

As I stated, I have no problem with this ice cream truck. It's small, cute, and suitably retro. That said, Stuy Town considers it theirs and part of the sell of their amenities. They said so themselves. It is not I who says publicly and on Stuy Town's official page "our" when referring to this ice cream truck.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that they are recruiting people to say nice things. It’s a pretty common practice to offer perks of some sort to people who give good reviews of a place. I have a neighbor who literally negotiates perks with various establishments in exchange for a good review, and she has said she has NEVER had someone turn her down. Even if it is something minor, they always offer something in exchange for that review.

In terms of people feeling blessed and magical - People should feel blessed that they have a roof over their head and food on the table, not that their landlord provides movies in the oval. If they truly believe that, and are not getting paid, then they have their priorities ass-backwards. The last time I heard a place called magical, it was Disney World, and this is about as far from Disney as can be imagined.

There is a lot more to this story that explains the State tax seizure of a business that is intertwined with Blackstone, Stuyvesant Town and rapper musicians.

I don't know what the problem is with this ice cream? The facts are known, so what is the problem? Again, I would suspect that Micky provides the ice cream, but that the truck is not his, but Stuy Town's. As to Mickey's store, there seems to be some evasion of the truth, but when the tax man comes, it can get serious. Mickey's problem, not ours.

It's Mikey - as in bikey; not Micky - as in tricky.
