The Hum from Hell: Yogurt & Coffee Truck Destroys Atmosphere of Oval

It's really amazing. Really amazing. So, Rose Associates spends time, energy and work hours to make the Oval look reasonably decent and then they screw it up by having a yogurt and coffee truck (Joy Ride Trucks!) parked near the playground, its AC/refrig system giving off an awful hum that is heard no matter where you go (or try to sit) around the Oval. Besides the exhaust smells, too, but at least that is limited to the near vicinity.

The truck has been there all evening, as it was earlier in the day, and will be there till 9-ish. Hummmm, hummmm, hummmm. The evening ruined. Thank you, Rose Associates!!!

July 2nd Update:

In Stuy Town again, at the other side of the Oval now. Pictured: The noise maker. Blowing a perpertual and annoying hum. Enjoy the Oval. Courtesy Rose Associates.

Seriously, what is this doing in the middle of a residential area?....

I bet most people who want a cup of coffee can step outside the boundaries of Stuy Town and buy a cup. How did this lucky vendor get approved to do business on private residential property? And same question for the smelly souvlaki truck from last weekend.

Is this a residential community or a Coney Island wannabe? If I want a cup of coffee or a snack, I'll make myself same in my kitchen. Can't we return Stuyvesant Town to being a RESIDENTIAL community? Not that it was ever Nirvana; it wasn't, but it was a quiet, clean, livable RESIDENTIAL community. Is Adam Rose getting kickbacks from these vendors? Do they meet all the rules and regulations pertaining to selling food and should they be selling it on RESIDENTIAL property? I have a feeling there is a lot of under-the-table deals being cut with Ross A$$ociates, who probably graduated from the Madoff Academy of Business Ethics, along with Rob and Jerry $peyer.

Yeah that's just what I need. To feel like a prisoner in this place AND be caffeinated! NO THANKS!

STR you are on a role! Keep up the good work!

It's absolutely amazing.

Hey lazy lardasses...HUNGRY..THIRSTY?
try limping your way over to Lenz's deli..or god forbid, cross over 14th street and get something to eat or drink.

But ask management to stick a few lousy water fountains near the playgrounds? HAH! Don't be ridculous.

I'm sure that Rose is breaking all types of zoning laws.

Pathetic.

I would love to see the return of the water fountains. Remember when those were removed (pre-Tishman Speyer, btw) and the management at the time (Rose?) put up water/soda machines?

Allowing these obnoxious, loud and stinky commercial enterprises into the Oval throughout the day and into the evening really shows the disdain that Rose Associates has for the residents of this complex. I'm sorry, no more Mr. Nice Guy from me, after fucking up my entire July 4th weekend.

Does Adam Rose not get? There are many residents who can only enjoy this complex on the weekend, when they are not working, and this totally fucks up such weekends here, which used to be relatively quiet, given that there are playgrounds around the Oval. Yes, your coffee trucks are going to get some business just because certain residents are lazy and don't give a damn about the atmosphere in the Oval (these are the type of residents that drop garbage on the ground for the cleaning crews to pick up later), but for the majority of users of the Oval this is an intrusion and very irritating.

I was going to post some very nice photos of the grounds I took the other day, but fuck that. This really pisses me off.

There's HORRIBLE "music" blasting into my apartment right now from the Oval. I see no improvement in the quality of life here from Rose Management.

This is out of control. Someone's making money that they're not supposed to be making and for what? These lazy, selfish jackasses who are so stupid that they overpay for chopped up apartments? Screw them. Adam Rose, you're full of crap.

Perfect! They have a website which means they must have a way to contact them through it. We should ALL start contacting them! Get my drift.

Wow! Look at ALL THOSE PEOPLE! A booming business! But really, they need to leave now.

I just went for a walk through the Oval to hear these trucks for myself. There were two trucks, the Taim Mobile parked near 2 Stuyvesant Oval and The Joy Ride parked by 19 Stuyvesant Oval. I walked clear across the complex and the droning hum of these two trucks could be heard all the way from the Avenue C Loop to the First Avenue. The people in 19 Stuyvesant Oval have it worse because the Joy Ride Truck was significantly louder and parked 15-20 feet from the tenant’s windows. And that was around 8:30ish. In my humble opinion it’s really unfair to force this noise upon the residents of these buildings JUST to sell a few random people a snow cone.

So much the "LUXURY" part of Stuy town !! What happened to that.. and what is the rent now that one has to put up with a truck outside the window??? I say:
Rebel Stuyvesantitess!! Rebel!!

I guess the "Luxury" part of Stuy Town is really out the window..
How much is rent now??? To have a truck outside the window in the Oval .. is really a joke..
Rebel Stuyvestantites - Rebel..

Lux, I'm glad you heard how far reaching is that noise. One wouldn't think so, but due to the acoustics of this complex noise like that, even if it's a low hum, travels far.

In my search for a quiet place yesterday (I gave up today), I had to go to the perimeter of Stuy Town, with that hum following me most of the way. Obviously, it wasn't as loud as right next to the truck, but it was there, an undercurrent that one couldn't blot out.

I was just trying to explain to someone on the Facebook page that this complex was designed to keep the noise of the city OUT. That's why the buildings are positioned the way they are.

The property was not designed to host concerts and idling trucks. The noise has no place to go and the exhaust is too close to the buildings.

Call me crazy but if I want entertainment, or food, or want to catch a movie, or shoot pool, or go out drinking, or see art, I LEAVE the property and ENJOY the city where these things are in abundance. I'm not so spoiled I need every movie, rock band and petting goat brought right to my window.

I'm not someone who needs Stuy Town planning events, activities and meal times for me like I'm on a Carnival Cruise Ship.

But hey, that's me.

I used to be so proud to live in Stuyvesant Town. Now I am embarrassed! It's known all over the place as a high priced dorm full of gimmicks because they have so many vacant apartments and are desperate for money. I have no intention of leaving because I have a rent stabilized apartment, but I really hate what these asshats, both TS and Rose, have done to this place. I do believe that the vendors on the property are illegal. Who do we complain to? There has to be a City agency that deals with this kind of thing, though with Bloomberg in power they probably all have their instructions not to mess with his pals, such as Rose A$$ociates. I wish there was some way we could fight back against these disgusting bloodsucking pirates.

I found websites for the food vending trucks. Do as I did and tell them how we don't want their trucks idling outside our windows all day long! This is a residential community not the South Street Seaport!
